Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior center
Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) finished with a double-double—13 points and 11 rebounds—as the Le Moyne College women's basketball team outstepped the University of New Haven 55-48 at Ted Grant Court on Tuesday night.
The win Tuesday night concludes the regular season schedule for both teams and cements the Dolphins record at 14-12 on the season and an even 10-10 against Northeast-10 opponents, landing them in third place in the Southwest Division standings. The Chargers finish seventh in the rankings with a 7-19 season record and a 5-15 conference record.
The Dolphins finished 6-15 (40 percent) from three-point range. Their season total for threes now stands at 177, which lands them in second place in the school's record book. Le Moyne is 11 away from the 188 record set by the 2014-2015 team.
Freshman guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) has six assists to add to her 5.4 game average and 141 season total. That season number extends her single-season assist record, which she set on Saturday.
Le Moyne started the game with a one-point advantage after an administrative technical foul was called on the UNH bench. And, it just so happens that one point separated both teams at the conclusion of each of the first two periods.
Junior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) contributed eight points in the first ten minutes and landed 2-3 from beyond the arc. Freshman guard
Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) ended the quarter with a three shot, which gave Le Moyne the 16-15 advantage. She had three long balls in the game.
A 6-0 Dolphin run finished off the half and the team was able to edge out a 28-27 lead.
Le Moyne outscored their opponent 21-5 in the third, opening up the half with a 10-0 run. That third-quarter control would end up being a pivotal factor in the game. After heading into the final period with a 49-32 lead, the team was then outscored by UNH 16-6, turning a 17-point lead into just eight points after three made shots from deep off the hands of Chargers' players, including two that ended the game. But, Le Moyne was able to come out with the 55-48 lead.
The Dolphins outshot UNH 41.5 percent to 31.1 percent from the field. Each team had its fair share of turnovers, 16 for Le Moyne and 17 for New Haven, but the Dolphins doubled the Chargers' in steals with 12.
Riddick racked up 12 points in the game, all of which were earned in the first half, as foul trouble led to just seven minutes in the second half.
Sunday, the Dolphins will propel into NE-10 postseason play, facing off against Assumption College in the NE10 quarterfinals at 3 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. Le Moyne beat the Greyhounds at Ted Grant Court, 48-42, back on January 7.
