BASEBALL CLOSES SERIES WITH UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES WITH 12-1 WIN

Philadelphia, Pa. – Graduate student Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Ursinus) tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 12-1 win over the University of the Sciences on Sunday at The Krajewski Family Field at Father Judge High School's Ramp Athletic Field Complex.

The Dolphins scored the only runs they would need in the first inning with four runs on three hits. Freshman second baseman Brian O'Mara (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) led off with a single and came around to score on a double by senior center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day). Following an out and sophomore first baseman Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) getting hit by a pitch, senior catcher Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) singled to left field to knock in DiNorcia. After a walk by sophomore designated hitter Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) to load the bases, Place scored as sophomore shortstop Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) reached on a fielder's choice. Junior left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Levanti.

Le Moyne tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second. After O'Mara and junior right fielder Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) drew walks around an out, Place doubled to drive in the duo.

The Dolphins scored four times in the sixth on four hits. After a walk by Pittman to start the frame, redshirt sophomore third baseman Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) smacked his first career home run to left field. O'Mara followed by drawing a walk and advanced to third on a single to right by DiNorcia. Cox then doubled to plate O'Mara and came around to score on a single to center by Place.

Le Moyne finished off its scoring with two runs in the seventh inning on one hit and one error. Freshman pinch-hitter/third baseman Nicholas Jacques (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) drew a walk with two outs and then advanced to third as O'Mara reached on an error by the shortstop. After junior pinch-hitter/center fielder Timothy Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Cox singled to drive in Jacques and O'Mara.

USciences broke through in the eighth for one run on two hits. Pinch-hitter Joseph Jachimiak and third baseman Tom Aaron drew walks around an out to start the inning. Following a single to center by second baseman Derek DeMaria to load the bases, shortstop Frank D'Alessandro singled with two outs to knock in Jachimiak.

Pisik struck out six and yielded just five hits over seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. Donato DiNorcia, Cox and Place each had two hits in the game, while Cox and Place each had three RBI. Eric Stratoti took the loss for the Devils after giving up six runs over four innings on the mound.

Le Moyne (5-2), which has won five of its first seven games for the second straight year, returns to action on Saturday for a pair of games in Thomasville, North Carolina. The Dolphins face Seton Hill University at 10:00 a.m. and Saint Thomas Aquinas College at 1:00 p.m.
