Yaphank, N.Y. – Sophomore righty
Sam Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in game two as the Le Moyne College baseball team recorded a pair of shutout victories over 23rd-ranked LIU Post on Sunday at Baseball Heaven. The Dolphins took the opener, 2-0, and posted a 6-0 win in the nightcap.
Walsh's no-hitter is the seventh individual no-hitter in the program's history and the first since Cory Nelson accomplished the feat on May 2, 2009 against Lafayette. With the program's last four no-hitters (three of which were also of the seven-inning variety) coming at home, Walsh is the first Dolphin to throw a no-hitter on the road since Scott Moody did so at Siena on April 14, 1993.
Walsh got the only run support he would need in the first inning. Older brother
Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) drew a walk with one out, moved to second on a single through the left side by sophomore
Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) and took third on a four-pitch walk by sophomore first baseman
Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda). After an out,
Ben Walsh scored on a balk.
The Dolphins doubled their lead in the second inning. Senior catcher/third baseman
Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) led off with a walk, advanced to second on a single by sophomore shortstop/pitcher
Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle). After a strikeout and a walk by junior right fielder
Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) to load the bases,
Ben Walsh lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Levanti.
Le Moyne pushed its lead to 3-0 in the third. Junior left fielder
JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) was hit by a pitch with one out and then stole second. Following an out, Levanti singled to left to knock in Pittman.
The Dolphins completed their scoring with three runs on three hits and one error in the seventh inning.
Ben Walsh led off with a double to right field, moved to third on a Spinoso single and scored on a wild pitch. After Spinoso took third on a groundout, he scored on a single up the middle by Pittman. Following a groundout, which allowed Pittman to take third, he scored as Levanti reached on a fielding error by the first baseman.
Sam Walsh struck out eight batters, including the final two batters he faced, en route to earning his first victory of the season. He worked around walks in the third and sixth innings, both of which were by catcher Thomas Asbaty.
Nick Schoen suffered his first loss of the season for the Pioneers after giving up three runs, four hits and four walks over four innings.

In game one, the Dolphins scored the only run they would need in the first inning.
Ben Walsh drew a walk with one out and advanced to third on a single up the middle by Cox. Place then lifted a sac fly to center to drive in Walsh.
Le Moyne tacked on a run in the fifth with just one hit. Walsh led off with a single to left center and moved to second as Cox reached on a fielder's choice. After a sac bunt by Place, Spinoso got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pittman followed by drawing a walk to force in Walsh.
Junior righty
Alex Kubera (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk/Niagara C.C.) improved to 4-1 on the season by striking out six and scattering four hits over six innings. Gray retired all three batters he faced, including the final two by strikeout, to earn his sixth save of the year. The six saves are tied for the seventh-most in a season in the program's history. James Varela took the loss for the Pioneers after allowing two runs and four hits over five and two-thirds innings, while striking out seven.
Le Moyne (11-6) returns to the diamond on Tuesday at Mercy College for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
