SOFTBALL EDGED BY BENTLEY, 2-1, TOPS HOLY FAMILY, 7-2

Clermont, Fla. – Senior third baseman Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) drove in five runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 7-2 win over Holy Family University on Monday night at the Legends Way Complex. The Dolphins fell to Bentley University, 2-1, earlier in the evening.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first against Holy Family with two runs on three hits in the first inning. After freshman catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) reached on a fielder's choice, senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) tripled to right field to knock in Nicolosi. Mascari followed with an infield to plate Riley.

Le Moyne scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth on one hit and one Holy Family error. Mascari was walked to start the inning, but was retired at second as freshman designated player/pitcher Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) reached on a fielder's choice. After a walk by junior pitcher Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) and a single by sophomore right fielder Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) to load the bases, senior left fielder Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) reached on an error by the catcher to drive in Bellrose.

The Dolphins blew the game open with four runs in the fifth inning. Senior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) led off with a single to center, Nicolosi reached on an error and then Riley singled to load the bases. Mascari, who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, then launched a grand slam for a 7-0 lead.

Holy Family broke through with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Designated player Alina Ponce De Leon led off with a single to left field and came around to score on a double to left by center fielder Kelsey Marigliano. Following a pair of outs around a walk, pinch-hitter Amanda Paredes singled to center to knock in Marigliano.

Eastman improved to 7-2 on the year after striking out five, while yielding two runs on five hits. Case, Riley and Mascari each had two of Le Moyne's eight hits. Jessica Wisuri took the loss for the Tigers after giving up two runs on four hits over three innings.

Against Bentley, the Dolphins scored first with one run on two hits and an error in the bottom of the third. Sophomore left fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) led off with a double and came around to score on an error by the center fielder on a single up the middle by Case.

The Falcons took the lead in the sixth inning on two hits and a Le Moyne error. First baseman Stacey Korotsky reached on an error by the first baseman to start the frame and then took second on a single by left fielder Kelsey Kennedy. After a groundout moved each runner up a base, Korotsky scored as center fielder Juliana Romeo reached on a fielder's choice. Shortstop Stephanie McQuaid then lifted a sacrifice fly to right to plate Kennedy with the winning run.

Bellrose suffered her first career loss after allowing two unearned runs and only three hits. Hannah King picked up the win after striking out six over seven innings, while yielding just an unearned run and four hits.

Le Moyne (9-3) is back in action on Tuesday against Georgian Court University at 1:00 p.m. and Wilmington University at 3:30 p.m.
