Clermont, Fla. – Five players recorded at least two hits each to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to an 8-6 victory over Georgian Court University on Tuesday afternoon at the Legends Way Complex. The Dolphins fell in their second game of the day, 5-0, to Wilmington University.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Georgian Court. Freshman designated player
Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) reached on a bunt single with one out and advanced to second on a single to center by senior center fielder
Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park). Senior third baseman
Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) followed with a double to right center to drive in Nicolosi and Riley. After Mascari moved to third on a groundout, she scored as sophomore right fielder
Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) reached on an error by the first baseman.
The Lions got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning. Left fielder/second baseman Cassandra Varvaro led off with a single through the right side, stole second and then scored on a two-out double down the left field line by catcher Reilly.
Le Moyne regained its three-run lead in the second inning. Senior shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) led off with a double to center and then took third on a single by Nicolosi. Following an out, Nicolosi and Case successfully executed a double steal. The run moved Case into fifth place on the program's all-time list with the 126th of her career.
The Dolphins extended their lead to 6-1 in the third with two runs. DeRita singled to start the frame, but was retired at second as junior second baseman
Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) reached on a fielder's choice. Following an out, sophomore left fielder
Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) blasted her second home run of the season to left field. Case then registered her 188th career hit, which moved her into 10th place on the program's all-time hits list, but she was stranded at second.
Georgian Court trimmed its deficit back to three runs by scoring twice in the bottom of the third on three hits. Varvaro led off with a double down the left field line and came around to score on a double to left by second baseman/shortstop Samantha Solomon. Following a groundout, Reilly singled up the middle to knock in Solomon.
The Dolphins pushed their lead to 7-3 in the fifth with a run on two hits. Junior first baseman
Rachelle Walters (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) singled to the second baseman with one out and was replaced at first by senior pinch-runner
Marisa DuVal (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). On an error by the right fielder on a double by Zazzaro, DuVal was able to score.
Reilly got the run back for the Lions with a two-out solo home run down the left field line.
Georgian Court scored twice on three hits in the sixth to pull within one. First baseman Kelly Hardiman was hit by a pitch with one out and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Adriana Scimone. Following a pop out and a single by left fielder Bryana Smith, Varvaro singled down the left field line to drive in Scimone and Smith.
The Dolphins added an insurance run on two hits in the seventh inning. DeRita led off with a single up the middle and was replaced at first by freshman pinch-runner
Allie DeGrouchy (Bowie, Md./St. John's College High). Following a sacrifice bunt and a fly out, DeGrouchy scored from second on a double to right field by Zazzaro.

Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) earned the win in the circle after striking out one over five innings, while yielding four runs on seven hits. Junior pitcher
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) picked up her third save of the year after tossing the final two innings. Zazzaro and Nicolosi each recorded three hits in the game, while Case, Mascari and DeRita each had two hits. Jessica O'Neil took the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) on 14 hits over seven innings.
Wilmington scored the only run it would need in the first inning. Left fielder Rosa'Lynn Burton led off with a double down the left field line, took third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Kaitlyn Slater.
The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the third on four hits. Second baseman Jayme Richardson led off with a bunt single and took second on a groundout. After moving to third on a single by shortstop Alyssa Velasquez, Richardson scored on a single to center by Slater. Following a groundout, catcher Mirabella Klebart singled down the right field line to plate Velasquez.
Wilmington used three hits to score once in the fifth inning. Velasquez, Slater and first baseman Colby Wyatt opened the frame with infield singles. After Velasquez was retired at home as Klebart reached on a fielder's choice, Slater scored on a wild pitch.
The Wildcats completed the scoring in the sixth inning. Pinch-hitter Jazmeen Llamas drew a walk with one out, stole second, took third on a single by Burton and then scored on a groundout by Velasquez.
Eastman took the loss after allowing five runs and 11 hits over six innings. With a sixth-inning double, Case moved her into a tie for seventh place on the program's all-time doubles chart with her 40th. Caitlyn Whiteside recorded her third win of the season after striking out two over seven scoreless innings.
Le Moyne (10-4), which is off on Wednesday, plays the University of Southern Indiana (1:00 p.m.) and Ferris State University (3:30 p.m.) on Thursday in Leesburg, Florida.
