SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH #16 SOUTHERN INDIANA, 2-11, AND FERRIS STATE, 2-1

Leesburg, Fla. – Freshman third baseman Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) doubled home the winning run in the seventh inning to give the Le Moyne College softball team a 2-1 win over Ferris State University on Thursday afternoon at the Sleepy Hollow Complex. The Dolphins fell earlier in the day to 16th-ranked Southern Indiana, 11-2, in five innings.

Shortstop Lexi Hongisto got Ferris State on the scoreboard first with a solo home run to left field to lead off the second inning.

After being held scoreless in the first five innings, the Dolphins scored in each of the last two innings to win the game. In the sixth, sophomore right fielder Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) led off with a single to left center and was replaced at first base by senior pinch-runner Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley). Following a sacrifice bunt and a groundout, freshman second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) doubled to right field to knock in Hope with the tying run.

Freshman catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) led off the seventh with a single to left field and moved to second as senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) reached on an error by the second baseman. After a sacrifice bunt, Bellrose doubled to left center to plate her classmate with the go-ahead run.

Junior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) earned her eighth win of the year after striking out a season-high eight batters, while allowing just the one run and four hits. Nicolosi registered three of the team's eight hits in the game. Megan Hiler took the loss for the Bulldogs after allowing one run in one inning of work.

Southern Indiana scored the only runs it would need in the second inning. First baseman Marleah Fossett walked and third baseman Mena Fulton was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Following a pair of outs, Olivia Clark-Kittleson singled through the right side to drive in Fulton. On a throwing error by the catcher on a steal by Clark-Kittleson, left fielder Caitlyn Bradley raced home. After a walk, Clark-Kittleson scored as second baseman Claire Johnson stole second.

Southern Indiana blew the game open with eight runs on six hits and one error in the fourth. Bradley led off with a home run to center field. Following an out and a double by Johnson, she came around to score as pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt reached on a throwing error by the shortstop. After a walk by shortstop Lexi Reese, catcher Haley Hodges blasted a homer to center to make the score 8-0. Fossett was hit by the next pitch, took second on a groundout, moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Lindsey Barr then doubled and scored on a single through the left side by Bradley, who then came around to score on a single to center by Logan.

The Dolphins pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth. After a one-out singled through the left side by Riley and an out, Bellrose launched a home run to left center.

Senior Marisa DuVal (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) took the loss in the circle after allowing five runs over four and two-thirds innings, while striking out three. Leonhardt earned the win after striking out three over five innings.

Le Moyne (11-5) plays a pair of Northeast-10 Conference foes on Friday. The Dolphins take on Assumption College at 12:00 p.m. and Bentley University at 2:00 p.m.
