Shippensburg, Pa. – Drew Bene homered and drove in three runs to lead Shippensburg University to an 8-1 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Thursday afternoon at Fairchild Field.
The Raiders opened the game's scoring with one run in the second inning. First baseman Jake Kennedy struck out to lead off the frame, but reached second on a throwing error by the catcher. After taking third on a fly out, Kennedy scored on a double to right by second baseman Nick Spangler.
Shippensburg blew the game open with five runs on five hits in the third inning. Left fielder Tommy Baggett and third baseman Ryan McMillen opened the inning with singles through the left side. After a sacrifice bunt, Baggett scored on a single to the shortstop by center fielder Dalton Hoiles. Kennedy then lifted a sacrifice fly to left to drive in McMillen. Bene followed with a two-run home run to left field. Catcher Jack Goertzen then homered to center for a 6-0 lead.
Le Moyne got on the scoreboard in the sixth on a one-out solo home run to left by sophomore designated hitter

The Raiders completed the game's scoring with two runs on three hits in the seventh. After Hoiles walked with two outs, Kennedy doubled down the left field line to knock in Hoiles. Bene then singled to right center to plate Kennedy.

Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing six runs and eight hits over six innings, while striking out eight. Zack Sims earned the win for the Raiders after striking out five over six innings.
 
Le Moyne (8-5) and Shippensburg complete their three-game series on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
