Garden City, N.Y. – Senior shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) recorded her 200th career hit and scored two runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 3-0 victory over 23rd-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Janet L. Ficke Field.
Following three scoreless innings to start the game, the Dolphins scored the only run they would need on two hits in the fourth inning. Case led off with a single to left center, which made her the eighth player in the program's history to record 200 career hits. She is the first to reach the mark since Kelcie Cashel '12 on April 29, 2012. After Case stole second with one out, she scored on a two-double to left field by freshman designated player
Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
The Dolphins doubled their lead in the top of the sixth inning with one hit and one Adelphi error. Case led off the frame with a double to center field. The double marks the 44th of her career, which moves her into a tie with Barb Shea '12 and Emily Senko '03 for fourth place on the program's career list, while she also moves past Cashel for seventh on the all-time hits list. Freshman catcher
Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) then reached on an error by the first baseman on a sacrifice bunt attempt, which allowed Case to race around to score.
Le Moyne completed the game's scoring with one run on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. Junior pitcher
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) led off with a single to right field, but then was retired at second as sophomore left fielder
Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) reached on a fielder's choice. Sophomore right fielder
Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) followed with a single to second to move Zazzaro into scoring position. After a strikeout and a walk on four pitches by Case to load the bases, Nicolosi drew a walk on six pitches to force home Zazzaro.
Adelphi brought the winning run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Eastman induced a pop out to the second baseman to end the game.
Eastman struck out a career high-tying 10 batters, while scattering just three hits, to earn her conference-best 11th win of the season and the 40th of her career. Lindsay Mapes suffered her fifth loss of the season after yielding three runs (two earned) and five hits over seven innings, while striking out four.
Le Moyne (17-6, 1-0 NE10, 1-0 SW) and the Panthers complete their series on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
