Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team inched closer to a Northeast-10 Conference Championships berth with a 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The Dolphins improve to 9-9 on the season and 4-4 in the NE10. The Dolphins close out the regular season on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against Assumption College, which also enters the match at 4-4 in the league. The winner of the match will claim the fifth seed in the NE10 Championships, while the loser will need Stonehill to lose at Adelphi to secure the sixth and final berth. Prior to the match, the senior class of
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport),
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
In the doubles competition, freshman
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and junior
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) defeated James Bisazza and Andrew Schadt at the top spot, 8-2. At the second position, freshman
Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, N.Y./Justine Henin Academy (Belgium)) and junior
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) edged Yuval Barak and Marcus Lawrence, 9-8 (7-3). Gayvert and sophomore
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) cruised to an 8-1 win at the third spot over Olivier Viel and Matthew Toombs.
The Dolphins captured all six matches in the singles competition in straight sets. At the first position, Blythe recorded back-to-back scores of 6-2 to beat Bisazza, while Gayvert tallied consecutive scores of 6-1 against Barak at the second spot. Doney improved to 10-6 at the third position with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Schadt. Sagaille and Barton recorded 6-2, 6-0 victories at the fourth and fifth positions over Lawrence and Viel, respectively. Procopio registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the sixth spot over Toombs.
