MEN’S TENNIS EDGED BY BENTLEY, 6-3

Waltham, Mass. – George Samander and Brett Gilman were double winners to lead Bentley University to a 6-3 victory over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Brandeis University.
 
The Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the match following the doubles competition. At the top spot, Samander teamed with Brendan McCarthy to edge freshman Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and junior Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds), 9-7. The third position was also a tight battle as Gilman and Michael Fuca posted a 9-8 win over senior James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa). Le Moyne earned its first point of the day at the second spot as junior Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, N.Y./Justine Henin Academy (Belgium)) registered an 8-4 victory over Chase Rosa and Dylan Granat.
 
In singles action, Samander claimed the win at the second spot over Gayvert by taking the first set, 7-5, dropping the second, 4-6, but then winning the third set, 6-3. Gilman won in straight sets at the sixth spot over senior Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), 6-2, 6-3. Granat rallied from down a set to earn the win at the third position over Doney, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Rosa was victorious over Sagaille, 6-3, 6-1, at the fourth position.
 
Blythe improved to 6-5 this semester by rallying to defeat McCarthy at the first position, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1. Barton remained undefeated in conference action (5-0) by recording a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory at the fifth position over Fuca.

Le Moyne (7-7, 2-4 NE10) is back at Brandeis on Sunday to take on the Judges at 10:00 a.m.
