BASEBALL RUNS WIN STREAK TO EIGHT WITH SWEEP OF STONEHILL, 6-3, 5-3

Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College baseball team extended its win streak to eight games by sweeping Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field. The Dolphins took the opener, 6-3, and recorded a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with a run on two hits in the first inning. Sophomore catcher Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) doubled down the right field line with two outs and came around to score on a single through the left side by sophomore first baseman Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda).

The Skyhawks answered with a run on two hits in the bottom of the inning. Left fielder Ben Monte led off the frame with a triple to right field and scored on a two-out single to left center by third baseman Joe Klingensmith.

Le Moyne regained the lead in the third by pushing across a run. Junior right fielder/first baseman Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) walked to open the frame and then stole second. After taking third on a fly out, Cox scored on a single to right by Place.

Stonehill took the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs on two hits. Second baseman Matthew Rocco reached on a bunt single to start the inning and then took second on a wild pitch. Following a walk by Monte and foul out, designated hitter Eddie Bowler singled to right center to drive in Rocco. After a walk by Klingensmith, shortstop Steve Lee lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Monte.

The Dolphins evened the score at three in the top of the fifth. Junior center fielder Timothy Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) was hit by a pitch and Cox walked to open the inning. Following a sacrifice bunt, freshman third baseman Nicholas Jacques (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded a sac fly to right to score Corapi.

Le Moyne took the lead back in the sixth with one hit and a Stonehill error. Junior left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) led off with a bunt single and then stole second and took third on a throwing error by the catcher. Following a pop out, sophomore shortstop/pitcher Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) knocked in Pittman with a sac fly to left.

The Dolphins added a pair of insurance runs on two hits and two Stonehill errors. Redshirt senior designated hitter/second baseman Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) led off with a bunt single, moved to second as Corapi reached on an error by the catcher on a sac bunt attempt and took third on a bunt single by Cox to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Jacques drove in Martin as he reached on an error by the right fielder. Corapi then raced home on a passed ball.

Redshirt sophomore righty Max Tessitore (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) earned his third victory of the season after striking out three over four-plus innings out of the bullpen. Gray earned his eighth save of the season by striking out all three batters he faced. The eight saves are tied for the fourth-most in a season in the program's history. Brandon Jewer took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) over six innings, while striking out five.

In the nightcap, Stonehill started the scoring with two runs on three hits in the second inning. Third baseman William Kelleher led off with a single to center and moved to second on a walk by first baseman Daniel Paul. Following a pair of outs, second baseman Brandon Nevius singled to right to plate Kelleher. Minton then singled through the right to drive in Paul.

The Dolphins answered with five runs on four hits and one Stonehill error in the next half inning. Corapi singled through the left side to start the frame and then Cox and redshirt sophomore second baseman/shortstop Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Pittman and senior third baseman/catcher Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) followed with back-to-back sac flies to plate Corapi and Cox. After Walsh took third on a single by Gray, he scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Jacques followed with a double down the left field line to knock in Gray, while he then scored on a single down the left field line by senior right fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day).

Stonehill scored once in the fifth, but couldn't cut into its deficit any further. Designated hitter Rob Duarte singled to center with one out and then stole second. After a strikeout, Kelleher singled to right field to knock in Duarte.

Freshman Chase Borowitz (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) earned his first collegiate win by striking out nine over seven innings, while yielding three runs and eight hits. Junior southpaw Cody Barnes (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) picked up his first save of the year after striking out two over two scoreless innings. Michael White took the loss after giving up five runs over four innings.
