VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON WITH 3-2 WIN OVER JEFFERSON, FALLS TO NYIT, 3-0

Old Westbury, N.Y. – Junior right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) registered a career-high 22 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Jefferson University to open the season on Friday evening at New York Tech's Recreation Hall. The Dolphins fell in their second match of the night, 3-0, to the host Bears.

The Dolphins started the season by taking the first set against Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University) by a score of 25-20. The Rams answered back with a 25-16 win in the second set to even the match and then took a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Le Moyne scored the final two points of the fourth set to knot the match at two sets apiece with a 26-24 win. The Dolphins closed out the season-opening victory with a 15-12 win in the fifth set.

Miller accounted for 17 of her match-high kill total in the three sets the Dolphins claimed with seven coming in the fourth set and five each coming in the first and fifth sets. She also recorded a career high-tying eight digs and posted five blocks. Miller's previous high kill total was 21, which she recorded four times, including three times last season, while it's the third time she has tallied eight digs. Junior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) recorded her first career double-double with career-highs of 16 kills and 19 digs. She posted five kills in each of the first and fourth sets and had six digs in each of the second, fourth and fifth sets. Setter Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) opened her senior campaign with a double-double of 53 assists and 13 digs, while adding four kills. Junior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively in the victory with 47 digs, while adding four assists and two kills. The 47 digs are the most by a Dolphin over the last 15 seasons. With her 12th dig of the match, she passed head coach and 2017 Gold Wave Hall of Fame Inductee Lizzie Cheek '10 (1158) for sixth on the career digs list and then passed assistant coach Bethany Fabian '13 (1168) for fifth on the chart with her 22nd dig of the contest.
 
Courtney Wensel led the Rams in the loss with a double-double of 16 kills and 28 digs. Mariah Cadzow also registered a double-double with 14 kills and 20 digs. Alexandra Harrington directed the Jefferson offense with 41 assists, while adding nine digs. Caitlin Crespo and Alexis Leddy gave the Rams four players with double-digit digs with 18 and 11, respectively.

New York Tech, which went 29-6 last year and was the top seed in the NCAA East Regional, took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 victory in the opening set. The Bears followed with another 25-16 win in the second set to take a 2-0 advantage. New York Tech closed out the match with a 25-23 victory in the third set after rallying from a 16-9 deficit.

Miller was the only Dolphin to record double-digit kills, posting a match-high 14 off a .406 hitting percentage, while she added eight digs for the second straight match. Corcoran registered another double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs. Porr tallied a match-best 19 digs, while Dillon added 13. Porr finished the evening with 1213 career digs and passed Jessica Burns '04 (1205) for fourth place on the career digs chart with her 12th of the match.

Karolina Moderova led the Bears in the victory with a double-double of 12 kills and 18 digs, while hitting at a .364 clip. Tiffany Verni also registered 12 kills in the contest. Allison Fowler facilitated the offense with 30 assists, while adding 10 digs, six service aces, five kills and four blocks. Portia McIntosh and Samantha Dagaray recorded 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Le Moyne (1-1) returns to the court on Saturday morning at Molloy College. The Dolphins take on the host Lions at 10:00 a.m. and then face Nyack College at 12:00 p.m.
