VOLLEYBALL COMPLETES OPENING WEEKEND WITH SWEEP OF MOLLOY AND NYACK

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Junior middle blocker Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) registered 30 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to victories over Molloy College and Nyack College on Saturday at Molloy's Quealy Gymnasium. The Dolphins opened the day with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Molloy and then recorded a 3-0 victory over Nyack.

In the first match of the day, Molloy avoided dropping the first set three times and scored the final three points for a 31-29 win. The Dolphins used a 6-0 run early in the second set en route to a 25-20 victory to even the match at one apiece. The Lions regained the lead with a 25-23 win after rallying from a 17-11 deficit. Le Moyne staved off defeat by jumping out to an 11-3 lead in the fourth set on its way to a 25-17 win. The Dolphins captured their second five-set victory of the young season with a 15-13 win in the fifth set after scoring three of the final four points.

Hafoka registered a team-high 18 kills, including five in each of the first and fourth sets. Classmate Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) recorded her third double-digit kill performance of the season with 16, including six in the third set, while adding six digs. Sophomore Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) tallied a career-best 12 kills, including five in the second set, while junior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) posted 11 kills. Senior setter Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) directed the offense with a career high-tying 62 assists, which is tied for the fifth-most by a Dolphin over the last 15 seasons and the most in the 25-point era. Junior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 36 digs, 11 of which came in the first set and 10 more came in the second set. Sophomore defensive specialist Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) added 15 digs.

Carly Banks led the Lions in the loss with a match-high 23 kills, while Kacey Affrunti hit .412 en route to 15 kills. Sophia Smith registered a double-double with 50 assists and 15 digs. Dakota O'Neill led four Lions with double-figure digs with 20, while Meaghan Carr and Francesca Castellano posted 13 and 12, respectively.

The Dolphins scored six of the last nine points of the opening set against Nyack to take the set, 25-22. Le Moyne tallied the first six points of the second set en route to doubling their lead in the match with a 25-15 win. The Dolphins closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set after scoring the final four points.

Hafoka hit .500 in the match on her way to leading all players in the contest with 12 kills, while adding three blocks. Dillon added 11 kills off a .400 hitting percentage. Corcoran recorded 36 assists in the contest to facilitate the offense, while Porr led the defense with 10 digs.

Larreya Hayden led the Warriors with eight kills. Rachel Medin registered a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs, while Kelsi Collins led the defense with a match-high 12 digs.

Le Moyne (3-1), which recorded three wins on the opening weekend of the season for the third straight year, returns to action on Friday at California University of Pennsylvania's Vulcan Invitational. The Dolphins face the host Vulcans at 12:00 p.m. and then take on Fairmont State University at 3:00 p.m.
