PORR BREAKS CAREER DIGS RECORD AS VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE, 3-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) broke the program's career digs record, but the Le Moyne College volleyball team was edged by Southern Connecticut State, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Confernce opener for both teams at Ted Grant Court.

With her 20th of 29 digs in the match, Porr eclipsed the previous record of 1380 held by Amanda McClure '06.

After the teams split the opening 14 points of the first set, the Owls scored seven of the next eight points and held the lead on their way to a 25-20 win in the set. The Dolphins evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-23 victory in the second set after rallying from a 22-17 deficit. The Owls regained the lead with a 25-23 win in a back-and-forth third set. Le Moyne forced a decisive fifth set after recording a 7-0 run en route to a 25-15 victory in the fourth set. In the fifth set, the Dolphins rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take a 10-9 lead before Southern Connecticut State scored four of the next five points to take a 13-11 lead and force a Le Moyne timeout. The Dolphins scored three straight points out of the timeout to force match point, but the Owls responded with a 3-0 run of the own to close out the match.

In addition to her 29 digs, eight of which came in the third set, Porr recorded three service aces and three assists. Junior Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) led four Dolphins with double-digit kills with a career-high 18, while registering a career-best 23 digs for her team-best fifth double-double of the season. Defensive specialists Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./ Sweet Home) and Molly Gallagher (Schenectady, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) posted 17 and 10 digs, respectively, as the Dolphins had five players with double-figure dig totals.
