Garden City, N.Y. – Katie Barry registered a double-double to lead Adelphi University to a 3-1 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
In the back-and-forth first set, the Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by scoring seven of the final eight points to record a 25-20 win. The Panthers evened the match at one set apiece with four of the final five points in the second set for a 25-22 victory. Adelphi used a 5-1 run late in the third set en route to taking the lead in the match with a 25-17 win. After the teams split the first 30 points of the fourth set, the Panthers used a 9-4 run to take control of the set and get within match point. The Dolphins scored four straight points to get within 24-23, but the Panthers landed a kill to take the 25-23 win.
Junior middle blocker
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) led two Dolphins with double-digit kills with 11, while adding six digs and three blocks. Sophomore middle blocker
Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) registered a .350 hitting percentage on her way to 10 kills, while adding a pair of blocks. Senior setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 12 digs. Junior libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 19 digs, while classmates
Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and
Molly Gallagher (Schenectady, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) posted 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Barry led the Panthers with 37 assists and 20 digs for her double-double, while adding five blocks and four kills. Victoria Cast led the Panthers on the offensive end with a match-high 13 kills, while adding three blocks. Katarina Warburton Adelphi on the defensive side with 23 digs, while adding three service aces and two assists.
Le Moyne (6-6, 0-2 NE10), which falls to 0-6 against the Panthers in Garden City, is back in action on Friday at Post University at 5:00 p.m.
