Amherst, N.Y. – Freshman
Elizabeth Glynn (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) dished out a pair of assists in a span of 95 seconds to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Daemen College on Sunday morning at Karrer Field.
The Dolphins registered the first four shots of the game and seven of the first eight over the opening 25 minutes, but could not find the back of the net. Three of the seven shots were on target, but were turned away by Daemen goalkeeper Katelin White. The Dolphins forced White to make two more saves over the final 15 minutes of the half, while Le Moyne junior goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) made two saves in the first half as the teams went into the intermission scoreless.
After the teams combined for nine shots off target over the first 30 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins broke through in the 77th minute. Off a corner kick by Glynn, junior
Kelsi Fredericks (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/SUNY Oswego) headed the ball into the back of the net at the 76:01 mark for her first goal of the season.
Only 1:35 later, the Dolphins added an insurance goal. Glynn sent a feed to senior midfielder
Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Mansfield), who slotted the ball into the goal for the first time this year and the sixth time as a Dolphin.
The Wildcats had two chances to get on the scoreboard in the final minute, but the Dolphins were able to preserve the shutout. Kayla Neumann had a shot at the empty net turned away by a defender with 32 seconds left, while Cumika made a save on Kaylyn Phillips with 10 seconds to play.
Cumika finished the contest with three saves between the pipes to record her 10th win and fifth shutout as a Dolphin. Maddie Flores took the loss for Daemen after replacing White at halftime and allowing both goals, while making one save. Le Moyne registered an 18-11 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in the first half, while posting a 9-7 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-1), which has defeated Daemen in each of the last four years, opens its home and Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Saturday against Southern New Hampshire University at 11:00 a.m.
