MEN’S SOCCER WINS HOME OPENER AGAINST ROBERTS WESLEYAN, 2-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) scored in the opening minutes of the second half to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan College on Monday morning at Ted Grant Field.

In the scoreless first half, the Dolphins registered the only seven shots of the period, but were only able to put two on target and they were both saved by Redhawks goalkeeper John Ciavaglia.

The Dolphins broke through with the only goal they would need just over six minutes into the second half. Off a throw-in from the right side by senior midfielder Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), freshman back Saemundur Óli Björnsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/The Commercial College of Iceland) flicked the ball from the side of the goal box toward the top of the goal box. Weber charged in and was able to slip a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal at the 51:05 mark for his Northeast-10 Conference-best fourth goal of the year.

Just over three minutes later, the Dolphins doubled their lead. After Weber had a shot blocked by a Roberts Wesleyan defender, junior midfielder Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) sent a shot into the top of the net at the 54:24 mark for his first goal as a Dolphin after having three assists last year.

Following two more saves by Ciavaglia, the Redhawks took their first shot of the game in the 69th minute. That shot, and another in the 78th minute, were both turned away by senior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute).

Beaury finished the game with the two saves between the pipes to earn his 39th career victory and 23rd career shutout, which is three off the most in the program's history. Ciavaglia registered six saves in the setback. The Dolphins tallied a 16-2 advantage in shots in the contest, while taking eight of the game's nine corner kicks.

Le Moyne (2-0), which has won 13 straight non-conference home games, looks to extend the streak on Saturday against Lock Haven University at 2:00 p.m.
