23RD-RANKED STONEHILL RALLIES PAST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN FOURTH QUARTER FOR 62-56 WIN

Easton, Mass. – Kelly Martin scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead 23rd-ranked Stonehill College to a 62-56 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Dolphins offensively in the loss with 15 points, all of which came in the first half, while adding five assists and five rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) followed with 12 points and a game-best nine rebounds.

Martin, who missed her first seven shots, finished with a game-high 20 points after making her final five shots and going 10-of-12 at the foul line, while adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Samantha Hyslip tallied 17 points, including seven in the second quarter, four rebounds and two assists. Courtney Walsh recorded 13 points and four assists.

After the teams split the first eight points of the game, the Dolphins tallied nine of the next 11 to take their largest lead of the game, 13-6, with 4:02 left in the opening quarter. Roberts started the streak with a three-pointer and Riddick followed with a pair of three-pointers to force a Stonehill timeout.

The Skyhawks score four of the last six points of the quarter to get within 15-10 after one period of play.

Stonehill used a 12-2 run to open the second quarter. Walsh drained two three-pointers in the stretch, including one to give her team a 22-19 lead with 5:47 left in the half, while Martin made four free throws and Hyslip hit a jumper.

Following three points from each team over the next three minutes, the Dolphins scored six of the last eight points of the half to take a 28-27 lead into the intermission. Roberts scored all six of Le Moyne's points on two baskets from behind the three-point line.

The Skyhawks regained the lead with nine of the first 13 points of the third quarter. Walsh scored the first five points before Hyslip converted two lay-ups for a 36-32 lead with 6:54 to go.

Le Moyne answered back with a 12-2 jaunt to take the lead back. Senior forward Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) recorded six of the points, junior guard Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Central Catholic) tallied four and senior forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) converted a fast-break lay-up give the Dolphins a 44-38 lead and force a Stonehill timeout with 2:23 remaining in the third.

Martin made a pair of lay-ups to get the Skyhawks within 44-42 after 30 minutes of play.

The Dolphins pushed their lead to 46-42 just 52 seconds into the fourth, but Stonehill countered with a 6-1 spurt to take the lead. Three Skyhawks accounted for the six points.

After Poitevien made a lay-up to put the Dolphins up for the final time, 49-48, with 5:28 to play, the Skyhawks, specifically Martin, scored six straight points to take the lead for good.

Purcell got the Dolphins within 54-53 with 2:09 left, but Grace Carter answered with a three-pointer and then the Skyhawks went 5-of-6 at the foul line in the final 22 seconds to hold off the Dolphins.

Le Moyne (10-7, 6-5 NE10), which had its season-best three-game win streak snapped, returns home to face Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
