Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 66-55 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
Riddick, whose previous high of 23 came against Southern New Hampshire on January 24, 2017, tallied 18 of her points in the first half, while adding seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophomore guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded 15 points, including 12 in the first half, seven rebounds and five assists. Junior guard
Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Central Catholic) posted 10 points and three steals.
Shannon Ryan and Grace Gauchione each scored 13 points in the loss for the Hawks, while Ryan had eight rebounds and Gauchione pulled down six.
The Dolphins scored the first four points of the game and eight of the first 11. Purcell scored the first two and the last two, while senior forwards
Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and
Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each made a shot also.
Following three-pointers by Gauchione and Emma Daly to give the Hawks a 9-8 lead, the Dolphins scored 10 of the last 13 points of the first quarter for an 18-12 lead after 10 minutes. Senior forward
Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) started the run with a lay-up, Roberts scored five of the points and Riddick drained her first of four three-pointers.
After the Dolphins scored the first four points of the second quarter to take their first double-digit lead of the contest, the Hawks scored eight consecutive points and 13 of the next 15 for their final lead of the game. Gauchione buried a pair of three-pointers in the stretch, Ryan made two lay-ups and Daly ignited the streak with a three-pointer.
Le Moyne responded with 10 straight points and 19 of the next 20 to take control of the game. Roberts started the run with a three-pointer and then Riddick drained a pair of three-pointers around a free throw by Purcell. After Ryan made a free throw for the Hawks, Roberts made back-to-back jumpers, Riddick hit a three-pointer in transition and then completed the run with two free throws.
Clairee Putnam got the Hawks within 43-29 at halftime with a three-pointer with 56 seconds left.
The teams went back and forth in the third quarter with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between 11 and 16 points and settling at 12 (53-41) after 30 minutes of action. Ali Glennon scored four of Saint Anselm's 12 points, while Purcell and Dobrovosky each scored three of Le Moyne's 10 points.
After the teams split the first 10 points of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins scored eight of the next 10 points to take their largest lead of the game. Roberts made a three-pointer, Riddick had three points over two possessions and Poitevien made two free throws.
The Hawks closed out the game with the final seven points over the last 55 seconds.
Le Moyne (11-7, 7-5 NE10, which is in a four-way tie for first place in the NE10's Southwest Division, is back in action on Tuesday at Saint Michael's College at 3:30 p.m.
