MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TOPS SUNY CORTLAND IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, WOMEN FALL TO RED DRAGONS

Cortland, N.Y. – Senior Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) won three individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a 156-140 victory over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Harriet Holsten Pool. The women fell to the Red Dragons, 165-129, to close out the regular season.
 
The quartet of May and sophomores Nicholas Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) and Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) opened the afternoon by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.79.

May registered the men's team's first individual victory of the day by touching the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.86. He earned his second win of the afternoon in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.51 seconds. His third victory came in the 200-yard IM, where he won by over 1.6 seconds with a time of 2:03.20.

Dierolf claimed the 100-yard breaststroke by posting a time of 1:02.66. He completed the sweep of the breaststroke events by winning the 200-yard by over 1.6 seconds in 2:16.48.

Senior Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) captured the 200-yard butterfly by over four seconds with a time of 2:01.35.

Walton picked up an individual win in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.36 seconds. He then won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.82 seconds.

Freshman Austin Richardson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) registered the victory in the 500-yard freestyle by posting a time of 4:57.47.

The team of Walton, Raiola, freshman Nathan Gdula (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) closed out the meet by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.34.

On the women's side, senior Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke by almost one second with a time of 1:09.31. She then topped the field in the 200-yard breaststroke by over six seconds with a time of 2:33.37.

Freshman Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) won the 200-yard by 1.4 seconds with a time of 2:14.00. She later won the 500-yard freestyle by over four seconds with a time of 5:29.88.

Sophomore Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) registered the team's final individual win with a time of 1:02.42 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Junior Kylee Wilson (Conesus, N.Y./Livonia) won the one-meter diving event with a score of 201.50.

The Dolphins return to the pool on Thursday, February 8 for the first day of the four-day Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Assumption College at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
