Syracuse, N.Y. – Victoria Lux registered a double-double to lead seventh-ranked Bentley University to a 71-59 come-from-behind win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday evening at Ted Grant Court.
Senior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) led the Dolphins in the loss with 21 points, her most against a conference opponent this season, and seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Sophomore guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was the only other Dolphin to reach double figures, posting 11 points, while dishing out three of Le Moyne's season-low five assists.
Lux led three Falcons in double figures with 16 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, six of which came in the final period, for her seventh double-double of the season. Lauren Green and Becca Musgrove each tallied 13 points in the contest, while Musgrove added four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
The Falcons, who have won nine straight games over the Dolphins in Syracuse and 15 of the 16 all-time meetings at Le Moyne, opened the game with the first six points. Lux started the scoring with a lay-up and Cassie Smith followed with a free throw and then Macchi Smith drained a fast-break three-pointer to force a Le Moyne timeout with 7:51 left in the first quarter.
The Dolphins, who had their three-game win streak snapped, answered back with five straight points and 10 of the next 14 to even the score at 10 apiece. Roberts and Riddick each scored three points in the span.
After Bentley regained the lead on a free throw, senior forward
Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) made a free throw to knot the score at 11 after the first period.
Le Moyne used a pair of 7-0 runs around a Green three-pointer to take its largest lead of the game. Riddick converted a jumper and a three-pointer around a jumper by Roberts to account for the first seven points. Poitevien scored the first three points of the second 7-0 spurt, while sophomore forward
Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) and senior forward
Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) followed with lay-ups.
Musgrove made a pair of shots in the final two minutes to get the Falcons within 27-18 at halftime.
After the teams traded baskets over the opening five minutes of the third quarter, during which time Le Moyne's lead bounced between five and 11 points, the Falcons closed out the period with a 16-3 run to take a 46-40 lead into the final quarter. Musgrove scored five of the first eight points, while Amy O'Connell scored the final five points of the second 8-0 spurt.
Riddick started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a lay-up, but Megan Lewis answered with a three-pointer and Lux followed with a lay-up.
After Riddick made two free throws with 5:38 left to get the Dolphins within seven for the final time, the Falcons put the game out of reach with an 11-2 run over 2:18. Lewis scored four of the points, Green drained her fourth three-pointer of the contest and then Musgrove and Lux made lay-ups for a game-high 16-point lead with 2:28 remaining.
The Dolphins got within 11 on a pair of occasions in the final 63 seconds, but could not get any closer.
