Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 69-44 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
Purcell scored 12 of her game-high point total in the first half, including six in each of the first and second quarters. Senior forward
Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) registered 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in 22 minutes off the bench. Senior guard
Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) recorded 11 points, three assists and three steals off the bench. Senior forward
Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) filled the stat sheet with a career-high 10 assists, nine points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Her 10 assists are the most by a player taller than six-foot in the program's history.
The Ravens, who did not have a player reach double figures, were led offensively by Claudia Tucci's nine points in 17 minutes off the bench. Diondra Woumn led all players in the contest with eight rebounds.
The Dolphins scored the first five points of the game and held a 21-4 lead after the first quarter. Leszyk led the Dolphins in scoring in the quarter with seven points, while Purcell had six, Dobrovosky had five (and three assists) and sophomore guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) drained a three-pointer. The Ravens were just 1-of-15 shooting from the field in the quarter.
Le Moyne used a 9-2 start to the second quarter to extend its lead to 30-6 with 5:28 left in the period. Purcell scored four of the points around five from senior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell).
After four points by the Ravens, the Dolphins rattled off 10 of the next 12 points for a 40-12 advantage with 47 seconds left in the quarter. Poitevien scored four points, while Leszyk, Dobrovosky and Purcell each had two.
Mya Mosley got the Ravens within 40-14 at halftime with a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left.
Following a 7-4 start to the third quarter by Franklin Pierce, the Dolphins scored 12 of the next 15 points to take their largest lead of the game, 56-24, with 2:17 left. Roberts scored five of the first six points, while Dobrovosky, Leszyk and sophomore forward
Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) followed with baskets.
Franklin Pierce closed out the quarter with seven of the last nine points to get back within 58-31 after 30 minutes of play.
The Ravens extended their run to 17-2 with the first 10 points of the fourth quarter. Hannah Martin had the first four points of the quarter, while Jemma Thacker added a three-pointer in the streak.
The Dolphins answered back with nine straight points to put the game away. Poitevien scored six of the points, while Purcell drained a three-pointer.
Le Moyne (8-6, 4-4 NE10), which has won three straight games against the Ravens, return to the hardwood on Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire University at 5:30 p.m.
