Syracuse, N.Y. – Four starters scored in double figures as the Le Moyne College men's basketball team registered a 79-67 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
Senior guard
Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) led the quartet with 18 points, 13 of which he scored in the first half, while adding a team-best four assists and three rebounds. Senior forward
Robert Jones III (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Northeastern College/Idaho State) recorded 14 points, including nine in the second half, while grabbing a game-best eight rebounds. Senior forward
Isaiah Eisendorf (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) scored six points in each half, while sophomore forward
Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) posted 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Mike McDevitt led the Ravens in the loss with 31 points, including his team's first 10 as part of a 17-point first half, while adding four rebounds and two blocks. Jordan Lackey was the only other double figure scorer with 12 points, while pulling down a team-high six rebounds.
After McDevitt nailed his second three-pointer of the game to get the Ravens within 12-10 with 14:59 left in the first half, the Dolphins rattled off nine straight points and 13 of the next 15 to take a 13-point advantage. Brown scored five of the 13 points, while four other Dolphins accounted for eight points.
Franklin Pierce responded with a 15-4 run to get back within two with six minutes to go in the half. McDevitt and Lackey each scored five points in the span.
The Dolphins countered with 10 of the next 12 points to regain a double-digit lead with 2:22 left. Jones III and senior guard
Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan) each had three points in the spurt.
David Bradbury hit a three-pointer for the Ravens before Sangster ended the half's scoring with a lay-up to give the Dolphins a 41-32 lead at halftime.
Following six points from each team over the opening 5:02 of the second half, the Dolphins used a 7-2 jaunt to take a 14-point lead. Junior guard
C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich/St. Thomas More/Gannon) started the spurt with a three-pointer, while senior forward
Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) capped it with a put-back lay-up.
After another 6-6 span, Franklin Pierce got back within eight points with an 11-5 run. McDevitt scored five of the points, while three other players each scored two points.
The Dolphins put the game away with 14 of the next 21 points to take a game-high 15-point lead with 56 seconds left. Jones III had the first seven points and nine total points in the stretch, while Sangster registered a conventional three-point play and Richards made two free throws to end Le Moyne's scoring in the contest.
Le Moyne (10-5, 7-1 NE10), which snapped a three-game losing streak, returns to action on Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire University at 7:30 p.m.
