VOLLEYBALL HOLDS OFF STONEHILL FOR 3-2 WIN

Easton, Mass. – Senior right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) accounted for the final two points as the Le Moyne College volleyball team rallied in the fifth set to defeat Stonehill College, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.

Le Moyne used a 10-2 run early in the first set en route to taking the set, 25-17. The Skyhawks evened the match at one apiece with a 25-22 win in the second set after scoring eight straight points and nine of the final 10. The Dolphins regained the lead in the match with a 25-20 win in the third set after posting eight of the last 12 points. Stonehill used a 7-1 run in the fourth set en route to staying alive in the match with a 25-20 win. The Dolphins fought off match-point five times in the fifth set and scored the last three points to take the set 19-17. Miller gave the Dolphins an 18-17 lead with a kill and teamed with freshman middle blocker Kendyl Gorick (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) to record a block for the final point.

Miller finished with a match-high 21 kills, including five in each of the first and third sets, while adding eight digs. Miller moved up two spots on the program's all-time kills chart with Saturday's performance. She passed former teammate Natalie Casson '17 (1197 career kills) for fifth place with her sixth kill of the match and then moved ahead of Sarah Brown '02 (1205 kills) for fourth place with her 14th of the day. Junior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) hit .444 en route to 14 kills, seven of which came in the final two sets. Freshman outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was the third Dolphin to record double-digit kills with 12. Sophomore setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded her second straight double-double with 51 assists and 10 digs. Senior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led all players with 27 digs, including eight in the second set, while adding a career-high eight assists.

Sophia Poveda led the Skyhawks in the loss with a double-double of 15 kills, including five in the fourth set, and 11 digs. Allyson Hughes also tallied 15 kills, including five in the second set. Abby Remick hit .364 en route to 14 kills, while adding seven digs. Megan Pennino was the fourth Skyhawk in double-figures with 10 kills. Lauren Wilke recorded a double-double with 50 assists and 10 digs. Rachel Dunlavy led the Skyhawks defensively with 20 digs.

Le Moyne (13-9, 5-7 NE10), which remains in contention for a Northeast-10 Conference Championships berth, returns to action on Friday at 5:00 p.m. by hosting Franklin Pierce University.
