VOLLEYBALL RALLIES TO FORCE FIFTH SET, BUT FALLS TO PACE, 3-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – Claudia Fontanet registered a double-double to lead Pace University to a 3-2 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

In the opening set, the Setters used a 12-1 run to turn a three-point deficit into a 17-9 advantage. The Dolphins countered with 13 of the next 20 points to get within 24-22, but Fontanet landed a kill to give Pace a 25-22 win. The Dolphins used a 7-1 run in the middle of the second set to take a 16-13 lead. After the Setters got within 19-17, the Dolphins closed out the set with six of the last eight points for a 25-19 victory. After the Dolphins used an 8-2 run in the third set to take a 19-16 lead, Pace scored six straight points to regain a three-point advantage. The Dolphins cut their deficit to one on three occasions, but Tatiana Calimpong-Burke landed a kill for a 25-23 win. Following a 5-2 spurt by the Dolphins to take a 17-14 lead, the Setters scored seven straight points and 10 of the next 13 to get within match-point at 24-20. Le Moyne responded with four straight points and seven of the last eight points for a 27-25 win to force a decisive fifth set. Pace jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the fifth set en route to a match-clinching 15-10 win.

Senior right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) registered a match-high 19 kills, while adding 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Her fifth kill of the opening set made her the sixth player in the program's history to land 1,100 career kills. Freshman middle blocker Alexa Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) came off the bench to hit .435 en route to a season-best 12 kills. Senior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and freshman outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively, to give the Dolphins four player with double-digit kills. Sophomore setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) facilitated the offense with 52 assists, while posting 14 digs for her team-best eighth double-double of the campaign and a career-high seven kills. Senior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) registered a match-best 32 digs as five Dolphins finished with twin figure digs. Junior defensive specialist Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and senior defensive specialist Molly Gallagher (Schenectady, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) posted 21 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
Fontanet led three Setters with double-digit kills with 17, while adding 15 digs. Calimpong-Burke recorded 14 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks. Kathleen Benson turned in 11 kills and five blocks. The setting duo of Katy Motz and Samantha Nidini each posted a double-double. Motz tallied 26 assists and 21 digs, while Nidini recorded 25 assists and 12 digs, while adding five kills. Danielle Vaiano was the fourth Setter with double-figure digs with 17.

Le Moyne (8-7, 1-5 NE10) completes its non-conference schedule on Tuesday against Daemen College at 7:00 p.m.
