Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) slammed down 15 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Daemen College in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Ted Grant Court.
The Dolphins scored nine of the first 11 points in the opening set en route to a 25-16 win. After falling behind 13-10 in the second set, the Dolphins rattled off eight consecutive points. Daemen responded with 10 of the next 15 points to even the set at 23, but the Dolphins recorded a pair of kills on Daemen blocking errors to win the set, 25-23. Following back-and-forth play resulted in a 21-18 lead in the third set, the Wildcats scored three straight points and six of the next seven points to get within set-point at 24-22. The Dolphins countered with three straight points to get within set-point themselves at 25-24 and 26-25.
Miller, who posted at least 15 kills for the fourth time this season, recorded seven of her match-high kill total in the second set, while adding three digs, two blocks and two assists. Freshman outside hitter
Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) totaled 11 kills, including four in each of the second and third sets. Junior middle blocker
Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) posted nine kills, including four in each of the second and third sets, and seven blocks. Sophomore setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) facilitated the offense with 39 assists, while adding four digs, two service aces and two kills. Senior libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the team defensively with 16 digs.
Sam Logan led the Wildcats in the loss with 10 kills, including five in the third set, three digs and two assists. Cristina Apostol recorded 10 kills in the opening two sets and added four blocks and three digs. Isa McCaffrey dished out 28 assists and posted six digs. Ali Greenwood led her team on the defensive side with 13 digs.
Le Moyne (9-7), which has won four straight matches over the Wildcats to even the all-time series at 8-8, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday at Saint Anselm College at 6:00 p.m.
