WOMEN’S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 6-1 IN NE10 PLAY WITH 5-2 WIN AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Manchester, N.H. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team improved to 6-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action with a 5-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts at Penmen Stadium.

The Dolphins took the second and third positions in the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) opened with a 6-0 win over Rachel Wagner and Phebe Hall at the third spot. Anna Sala and Sofia Morais evened the doubles at one apiece with a 6-2 victory at the first position over senior Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS). Sophomores Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) earned the point for the Dolphins with a 6-3 win at the second spot over Lior Pachuorkovski and Alexxa Etienne.
 
Le Moyne won four of the six matches in the singles competition to secure the victory. Freshman Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) put the Dolphins up 2-0 by registering a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fifth spot over Hall. Humala pushed the lead to 3-0 with back-to-back 6-0 wins over Abbey Killiam at the sixth position. Sala got the Penmen on the scoreboard by defeating Hamdan at the first spot, 7-5, 6-1. Morais trimmed her team's deficit to 3-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the second position over Oz. St. Antoine clinched the match for the Dolphins by topping Etienne at the third spot, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3. Nunez closed out the afternoon by rallying for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Wagner at the fourth position.

Le Moyne (7-2, 6-1 NE10), which cut its magic number for an NE10 Championships berth to one, is back on the courts on Sunday at Merrimack College at 10:00 a.m.
