North Andover, Mass. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team was edged by Merrimack College, 4-3, in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday at North Andover High School.
The Warriors won the top two positions in the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Mana Seifaei and Rosemary Campanella registered a 6-3 win at the top spot over senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS). At the second spot, Kristina Calistro and Cassie Restrepo were 6-4 winners over sophomores
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)). Sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) improved to 5-0 as a duo with a 6-2 win at the third spot over Mia Briggs and Lauren Persson.
The teams split the singles competition, which resulted in Merrimack clinching the victory. At the third position, Restrepo registered back-to-back 6-2 wins over St. Antoine. Campanella posted consecutive 6-4 victories over freshman
Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) at the fifth spot. Hope Salts turned in a 6-0, 6-3 win at the sixth spot over Humala. For the Dolphins, Hamdan was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at the first position over Seifaei. Oz collected a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the second spot against Persson. Nunez improved to 8-0 in NE10 play and 11-1 overall by defeating Calistro at the fourth position, 6-3, 7-6 (10-7).
Le Moyne (7-3, 6-2 NE10), which is in a three-way tie for third place in the NE10, returns home to face Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
