New Haven, Conn. – Imani Wheeler hit a go-ahead jumper with 2:59 remaining as Southern Connecticut State University rallied in the fourth quarter for the second time this season to defeat the Le Moyne College women's basketball team, 53-52, on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Moore Field House.

Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) led three Dolphins in double digits with 15 points, while adding a game-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double in NE10 action. Senior forward
Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) turned in 11 points, while sophomore guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) posted 10 points.
Abby Hurlbert was the only Owl to reach double digits, tallying 15 points, while grabbing seven rebounds.
The teams traded 5-0 runs over the first six and one-half minutes of the game as the Owls took a 10-9 lead after one quarter of play. Roberts had five of Le Moyne's points, while Hurlbert drained a pair of three-pointers for the Owls.
After Southern Connecticut State scored the first two points of the second quarter, the Dolphins scored eight straight points to take the lead. Sophomore forward
Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) converted a pair of jump shots in the span.
Following six points from each team over the next five minutes, Murphy Murad buried a three-pointer with seven seconds left to get the Owls within 23-21 at halftime.
The Owls scored the first four points of the third quarter to regain the lead. Kiana Steinauer made two free throws and then Paige Decker knocked down a jump shot.
After six points from each team over 69 seconds, during which time Le Moyne momentarily regained the lead before four points by the Owls, the Dolphins scored six straight points to take a two-possession lead. Webster recorded a conventional three-point play and then senior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) drained a three-pointer.
Southern Connecticut scored five of the next seven points to get within one, 37-36, with 1:48 left in the quarter, but the Dolphins answered with seven of the last 10 points to take 44-39 lead after three quarters. Corcoran made a jumper and then Roberts made a fast-break lay-up and a three-pointer.
The Owls opened the fourth quarter with the first seven points to take the lead. Hurlbert and Decker made lay-ups before Africa Williams nailed a three-pointer for a 46-44 lead and forced a Le Moyne timeout with 7:26 to go.
After the lead changed sides three times over the next three and one-half minutes, Wheeler knocked down a jump shot with 2:59 left for a 51-50 lead and the 16th lead change of the game. She followed 74 seconds later with a lay-up for a 53-50 advantage.
Webster countered with a lay-up with 1:20 left, but neither team would score the remainder of the game.
After a one-minute-and-six-second scoreless possession by the Owls, Webster intercepted a pass with 12 seconds left to give the Dolphins a chance to win the game. Following a foul by the Owls with nine second left, Roberts took an off-balance, step-back jump shot from the right elbow, but the attempt was well short. Webster was able to corral the ball before the final horn, but her attempt came after the time expired.
Le Moyne (14-9, 10-7 NE10), which has dropped back-to-back games for the first time since the first week of December, returns to action on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. by hosting Pace University in a battle for second place in the NE10 Southwest Division.
