WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLIMBS INTO TIE FOR SECOND PLACE WITH 69-45 WIN AT SAINT ROSE

Albany, N.Y. – Sophomore guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored 19 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 69-45 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Dolphins move into a tie for second place in the NE10 Southwest Division with Pace University with one game to go. If the Dolphins defeat the University of New Haven on Tuesday and Pace loses to Saint Rose, the Dolphins will claim the second seed. If Pace wins and Le Moyne wins or if Pace loses and Le Moyne loses, the Setters will be second and the Dolphins third.

Roberts registered 10 of her game-high point total in the second half, while finishing the game with six assists. Senior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell), who played in her hometown for the final time, recorded 14 points, including nine in the first half, and eight rebounds (five offensive). Senior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and junior guard Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) each tallied 11 points, while Dobrovosky grabbed six rebounds.

Courtney Clasen led the Golden Knights off the bench with eight points.

After Riddick started the game's scoring 18 seconds in, the Golden Knights scored 11 of the next 16 points to take their largest lead. Zoe McDonald led the run with four points.

The Dolphins answered with 10 straight points to regain the lead, which they would not relinquish. Roberts started the run with a three-pointer and Purcell capped it with a trifecta of her own.

Saint Rose countered with a 10-4 run to even the score at 21 with 27 seconds left in the quarter. Nina Fedullo scored the first seven points before Clasen drained a three-pointer.

Roberts hit a jumper with two seconds left to give the Dolphins a 23-21 lead after the first period.

Le Moyne scored the first four points of the second quarter and seven of the first nine to take its largest lead of the half. Riddick gave the Dolphins a 30-23 lead with 4:53 left with a conventional three-point play.

Saint Rose used a 7-2 spurt of its own to get back within two on a McDonald lay-up with 38 seconds left.

Again, Roberts closed out the quarter with a jumper for a 34-30 halftime lead.

The Dolphins took control of the game in the third quarter by outscoring the Golden Knights, 17-5. Six Dolphins scored in the quarter, led by six points from Roberts on a pair of three-pointers.

After scoring the final three points of the third quarter, the Dolphins scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take their first 20-point lead of the game, 55-35, with 8:24 to play.

The Golden Knights scored four straight points to get back within 16, but the Dolphins countered with a 14-5 run for their largest lead of the game, 69-44, with 42 seconds remaining. The Dolphins had six scorers in the span, led by four points from Roberts.

Le Moyne (15-10, 11-8 NE10), which clinched an above-.500 NE10 winning percentage for the first time since the 2008-09 season (12-10), concludes the regular season on Tuesday against New Haven at 5:00 p.m. Prior to the tip off, the five-member senior class will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association.
