Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 63-52 victory over the University of New Haven on Tuesday evening at Ted Grant Court in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale.
With the victory, along with Pace University's loss to The College of Saint Rose, the Dolphins claim the second seed in the NE10's Southwest Division for the upcoming conference championship. The Dolphins will host the Northeast Division's third seed, Saint Anselm College, in a quarterfinal game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Dobrovosky tallied six points in each of the first three quarters en route to her career-high point total, while grabbing five rebounds and three assists. Her previous career high of 19 came in an 85-72 win against American International on February 4, 2017. Senior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) nearly posted a double-double with 12 points, seven of which came in the first quarter, and a game-high eight rebounds.
Micah Wormack led the Chargers off the bench with 13 points, including nine in the second half, and five rebounds. Brie Pergola added 11 points and two steals.
Le Moyne (16-10, 12-8 NE10) opened the game with 11 of the first 13 points over the initial 4:11. Dobrovosky had six of the first eight points and then Riddick drained a three-pointer in transition to force a New Haven timeout.
After a New Haven basket, the Dolphins used a 10-2 run to take a 21-6 lead after one quarter of play. Riddick had the first four points, while sophomore guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) added a three-pointer in the stretch.
Following a 5-2 spurt by the Chargers to get within 23-11 with 8:20 left in the second quarter, the Dolphins answered with a 12-2 run to take a 22-point advantage with 5:04 left in the half. Riddick and senior guard
Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) bookended the stretch with three-pointers, while Dobrovosky made a pair of jumpers.
The Chargers got baskets from Quana Smith and Wormack before sophomore forward
Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) ended the half, and a scoring drought of 5:02, with a put-back jumper for a 37-17 lead at the intermission.
Le Moyne scored the first four points of the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game.
New Haven responded with seven straight points to get its deficit into the teens.
Following back-and-forth action in which Le Moyne's lead bounced between 17 and 19 points, the Chargers scored six straight points to get within 13 (47-34) with 59 seconds left in the quarter. Wormack made a pair of jumpers around a lay-up by Pergola.
Riddick made a lay-up to push Le Moyne's margin to 49-34 after three quarters.
The Dolphins extended their lead back to 18 with four of the first five points of the fourth quarter.
New Haven registered 17 of the last 27 points of the game to deliver the final margin. Wormack led five scorers in the span with five points, while Allieyah Cubbage made a pair of fast-break lay-ups. Dobrovosky made two shots for four of Le Moyne's 10 points.
