ROBERTS TIES PROGRAM RECORD AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO 77-49 WIN OVER SAINT ANSELM IN NE10 QUARTERFINALS

Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tied a program record with seven three-pointers to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 77-49 victory over Saint Anselm College on Sunday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships quarterfinals at Ted Grant Court.

With the victory, the Dolphins advance to the NE10 semifinals for the second consecutive year and for the third time in the program's history. The Dolphins, the second seed from the Southwest Division, will visit Stonehill College, the top seed from the Northeast Division, on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. In the regular season meeting between the teams on January 17, the Skyhawks rallied in the fourth quarter for a 62-56 win.

Roberts, who finished the contest with a season-best 27 points, tied the program's single-game record for three-pointers with her seven. Jennifer Dennett connected on seven trifectas on January 10, 1994. Roberts also dished out a game-high seven assists. Senior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while classmate Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) tallied 12 points and three rebounds. Junior guard Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) was the fourth Dolphin in double digits with 10 points, while dishing out four assists.

Shannon Ryan and Peyton Steinman led the Hawks in the setback with 13 points and eight rebounds each. Clairee Putnam added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.

After the Hawks started the game with seven of the first nine points, the Dolphins answered with an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game. Roberts made a lay-up, Dobrovosky drained her fourth career three-pointer and then Webster recorded a conventional three-point play.

Saint Anselm regained the lead, the team's last, with a 5-2 spurt. Putnam drilled a three-pointer and then Ryan made a jumper.

The Dolphins scored the next eight points to take control of the game. Purcell connected on a three-pointer, Roberts made her first three-pointer of the contest and then Dobrovosky converted two foul shots.

Ali Glennon made two free throws with 30 seconds left in the opening quarter to get the Hawks within 20-16 after 10 minutes.

Le Moyne scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take its first double-digit lead of the game. Roberts had the first five, while Purcell added a three-pointer.

Saint Anselm answered back with nine straight points to get back within 30-25 with 2:10 until halftime. Ryan had four points, Steinman made three free throws and Glennon made a jumper.

Roberts buried a pair of three-pointers around a Ryan lay-up to push Le Moyne's lead back to nine before Putnam ended the half with a lay-up to make the score 36-29 at the intermission.

The Dolphins started the second half with eight of the first 10 points and 17 of the first 21 to take their first 20-point lead of the game, 53-33, with 1:57 to go in the third quarter. Roberts tallied five of the points, senior forwards Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) and Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) each had four points and Webster and Purcell each scored two points.

After Steinman made four free throws, Webster beat the buzzer with her second career three-pointer from the right wing to give the Dolphins a 56-37 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Following a lay-up by Grace Guachione that made the score 58-40 with 7:58 left, the Dolphins scored 12 straight points for their first 30-point lead of the contest. Roberts drilled back-to-back three-pointers, Webster made a lay-up and Dobrovosky followed with four points.

The Hawks got within 72-46 with 1:56 left on a Steinman lay-up, but the Dolphins followed with five points for their largest lead of the game. Sophomore forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) made a lay-up and then freshman guard Gabriella Badway (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) recorded a conventional three-point play to cap her team's scoring.
