SOFTBALL RECORDS WINS OVER CALDWELL AND SLIPPERY ROCK

Clermont, Fla. – Senior designated player/pitcher Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) drove in two runs and recorded the save as the Le Moyne College softball team registered a 5-2 win over Slippery Rock University on Saturday at the National Training Center's Legends Way Ballfields. The Dolphins also defeated Caldwell University on Saturday morning, 4-3. Statistics are currently unavailable for the contest with the Cougars.

Slippery Rock opened the game's scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Center fielder Emily Nagle drew a walk to begin the game and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. She then scored on a single by third baseman Becca Roesch.

The Dolphins took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Graduate student center fielder Kelsey Johnson (Greece, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy/Buffalo/Syracuse) and junior right fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) drew consecutive walks to start the frame and then senior third baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) singled to load the bases. Eastman followed with a single to drive in Johnson, while Zazzaro was thrown out at home. After a fly out, Andrews scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) then doubled to knock in Eastman.

Le Moyne added a run on two hits in the second inning. Sophomore first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) led off with a single to left, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Johnson and took third on a wild pitch. Sophomore right fielder Mia Pollino (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) followed with a single to center to drive in Artley.

Slippery Rock pulled within 4-2 with a run in the fourth inning on two hits. Shortstop Kailey Myers led off with a single to left and came around to score on a triple by first baseman Allie Fischer.

The Dolphins completed the game's scoring with a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth. Johnson singled with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. After Pollino was hit by a pitch and Andrews worked an 11-pitch walk to load the bases, Eastman singled to drive in Johnson.

Freshman righty Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) earned her second win of the season after striking out five over five-plus innings, while yielding two runs on four hits. Eastman recorded the final six outs of the game to earn her second save of the campaign and the 10th of her career, which matches the program record held by Jennifer Farrelly '09. Andria Copelli took the loss for Slippery Rock after allowing four runs over one and one-third innings.

Le Moyne (14-4), which is 9-3 at The Spring Games, completes its eight-day road trip on Sunday against Northwood University at 10:00 a.m.
