SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE WINS NE10 OPENER, 18-7, OVER BENTLEY

Waltham, Mass. – Sophomore attackman Jake Lewis (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Cleveland State) recorded five points to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over Bentley University on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Dolphins tallied four goals over the initial 4:41 of the contest. They opened the scoring just 44 seconds into the game as sophomore midfielder Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) found the back of the net. Classmate Riley Larson (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) followed 1:25 later with an unassisted tally. Lewis picked up his first goal of the afternoon with 10:40 left in the first quarter after taking a pass from junior midfielder Josh Slowinski (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence). Senior attackman Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) made the score 4-0 only 21 seconds later after collecting a pass from freshman attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua).

The Falcons got on the scoreboard with 9:12 left as Sam Hurley recorded an unassisted goal. After sophomore midfielder Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena) pushed Le Moyne's lead back to four with 8:10 left, Matt Sanford registered an extra-man goal with 4:53 left off a feed from Joe DiRaimo.

Le Moyne scored three times in a span of 2:07 to take an 8-2 lead after 15 minutes of play. Lewis netted his second goal of the day with 3:42 left off a feed from Hutchings. Larson found the back of the net 54 seconds later off a pass from Lewis. Slowinski completed the scoring in the quarter with 1:35 remaining off a feed from junior midfielder Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn).

The teams split the six goals scored in the second quarter. Mark Galione scored off a feed from Hurley with 13:46 left, while Kesselring countered with 11:48 to go. Alex Astarita got the Falcons within 9-4 with 9:20 remaining in the half. The Dolphins answered with back-to-back goals. Less than one minute later, Filtch tallied off a feed from Lewis, who then netted his team's final goal of the half with 2:36 remaining. Astarita got the Falcons within 11-5 at halftime with a goal with eight seconds left.

Astarita started the scoring in the third quarter with an extra-man goal 3:18 into the half after taking a feed from DiRaimo.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 13-6 after 45 minutes of play with the final two goals of the third quarter. Andrews picked up a rebound and scored with 9:24 left, while sophomore Hans Zimmer (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) scored with 1:15 to go in the category.

Le Moyne scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter over 3:19 to take a double-digit lead. Hutchings started the stretch with 12:43 left off a pass from Entenmann. Off the ensuing faceoff, senior faceoff specialist Kendall Vecchio (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown/Johns Hopkins) scooped up the ball and tallied his second career goal in a span of 12 seconds. Only 50 seconds later, Zimmer recorded his second goal of the day for a 16-6 advantage.

Hurley tallied Bentley's final goal of the game with 9:21 left in the contest.

Le Moyne's final two goals came in a span of 1:05. Senior midfielder Tom Koster (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) found the back of the net with 7:44 left and then senior attackman Greg White (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols School) completed the scoring in the contest.
 
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jack Sweeney (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) made 15 saves (against seven goals), including four in the second quarter and five more in the third, over 56:37 between the pipes to earn his fifth win of the year. Robert Hamerman stopped six shots in the loss for Bentley.

Le Moyne (5-0, 1-0 NE10) returns to action on Saturday by hosting top-ranked Merrimack College at 1:00 p.m.
