Manchester, N.H. – The top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team scored a pair of goals in each quarter en route to an 8-3 victory over 20th-ranked Saint Anselm College on Saturday morning in Northeast-10 Conference action at Grappone Stadium.
Saint Anselm started the game's scoring 1:27 into the contest as Patrick Sweeney tallied his eighth goal of the season.
The Dolphins answered with the final two goals of the opening quarter. Out of a timeout by Saint Anselm, the Dolphins evened the score at one apiece as senior attackman
Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) found the back of the net for the 24th time this season with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter. Following a save by junior goalkeeper
Kyle Lumpe (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) with 42 seconds left, freshman attackman
Ben McCreary (Cicero, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored with just 4.1 seconds left after taking a pass from Kesselring.
Le Moyne pushed its lead to 3-1 with the first goal of the second quarter. Just over six minutes into the period, sophomore midfielder
Riley Larson (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) registered his 10th goal of the year.
The Hawks got back within a goal 68 seconds later as Sweeney scored with 7:50 left until halftime.
The Dolphins took a 4-2 lead into halftime as junior midfielder
Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) recorded his sixth goal of the campaign with 50 seconds left.
Le Moyne scored the only two goals of the third quarter to take a 6-2 advantage. Freshman midfielder
Kaiden Tubbert (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Bridgton Academy) scored from the left side with 5:35 left after taking a pass from the top from sophomore midfielder
Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus). Hutchings closed out the quarter's scoring with seven seconds left with an unassisted tally, his ninth of the year.
Saint Anselm got back within 6-3 at the 13:39 mark of the fourth quarter as Xavier Quinn scored an unassisted goal.
Senior attackman
Greg White (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols School) pushed the margin back to four with his sixth marker of the season with 9:28 remaining in the game. Freshman attackman
Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) finished off the game's scoring with 3:33 left by finding the back of the net for the 11th time of the year.
Lumpe registered a career-high 12 saves, including four in each of the second and third quarters, to earn his second straight victory. Nick Richard also recorded 12 saves, including five in the first quarter and four in the fourth, for the Hawks.
Le Moyne (8-0, 4-0 NE10), which improves to 3-0 against ranked opponents, returns to New Hampshire on Tuesday to take on Franklin Pierce University at 3:30 p.m.
