SOFTBALL RECORDS SPLIT WITH LIU POST

Clermont, Fla. – Senior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) struck out 10 batters to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 3-2 win over LIU Post on Monday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at The Spring Games. The Pioneers won the nightcap, 5-0.

Le Moyne started the day's scoring with two runs in the first inning. After sophomore catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) doubled to left center with one out, junior right fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) blasted her team-leading fourth home run of the season.

The Dolphins scored the game's eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning. With two outs and freshman pinch-runner Johnna Karas (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) on second, senior designated player Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) singled to drive in Karas.

LIU Post cut its deficit to one in the sixth with two runs on two hits. After designated player Amanda Arena singled to left with one out, third baseman Breanna Klaiber blasted a home run.

Eastman improved to 5-1 on the season after posting her 10 strikeouts, while yielding two runs on six hits. Hannah Olshevski took the loss after giving up three runs on five hits over six innings.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers scored the only runs they would need in the second inning. With one out and Klaiber on first, left fielder Megan Sneeden reached second on an error by the first baseman, which allowed Klaiber to advance to third. First baseman Ashley Melendez then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Klaiber. Sneeden then scored as the catcher overthrew the pitcher on a toss back to the circle.

LIU Post tacked on three runs in the fourth inning. Center fielder Abbey Fortin led off with a home run for a 3-0 lead. With Arena on third and Sneeden on first with one out, right fielder Jaclyn Hahn doubled to knock in Arena and Sneeden for the game's final runs.

Sophomore righty Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) took the loss after allowing five runs (one earned) over four innings. At the plate, Bellrose had two of Le Moyne's five hits. Katie Humhej earned the win for the Pioneers after striking out four over seven innings, while giving up just five hits.

Le Moyne (8-2) continues play at The Spring Games on Tuesday against Georgian Court University at 9:00 a.m. and Wilmington University at 11:30 a.m.
