SOFTBALL REGISTERS WINS OVER GEORGIAN COURT AND WILMINGTON

Clermont, Fla. – Junior right fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) had four RBI to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to wins over Georgian Court University and Wilmington University on Tuesday at The Spring Games. The Dolphins defeated Georgian Court, 5-2, and then topped Wilmington, 2-0.

The Dolphins got the scoring started against Georgian Court with four runs on four hits in the first inning. Graduate student center fielder Kelsey Johnson (Greece, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy/Buffalo/Syracuse) led off with a single to the shortstop, moved to third on a single to center by sophomore catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and then scored on a single to left center by Zazzaro. After a pair of outs, senior third baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) smacked a three-run homer to center.

Georgian Court got one run back in the bottom of the first as right fielder Malaya Black hit a two-out, solo home run to right center.

Le Moyne pushed its lead back to four in the second with a run on two hits. Johnson reached on an error by the pitcher with two outs, advanced to second on a single by Nicolosi and then scored on a single down the left field line by Zazzaro.

Georgian Court completed the game's scoring with a run in the fourth inning. Black led off with a single up the middle, stole second and then scored on a double to left center by catcher Samantha Reilly.

Sophomore righty Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) earned her fourth win of the season after striking out four over four innings, while yielding two runs on three hits. Freshman righty Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) tossed three scoreless innings in relief to collect her second save of the year. Jessica O'Neil took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) in two innings of work.

Against Wilmington, all of the runs in the game came on one swing of the bat. After Johnson walked to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, Zazzaro slammed her team-best fifth home run to center field.

Senior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) improved to 6-1 on the season – and 2-0 against the Wildcats – by striking out seven over seven scoreless innings, while giving up just two hits. Makayla McCarthy took the loss after giving up two runs over three innings.

Le Moyne (10-2), which is 5-1 over its first three days at The Spring Games, is back in action on Thursday. The Dolphins take on Felician College at 9:00 a.m. and Holy Family University at 11:30 a.m.
