THIRD-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF FOR 14-4 WIN OVER 14TH-RANKED MERRIMACK

Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman attacker Emily Altland (North Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) tied her career high with six points to lead the third-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 14-4 victory over 14th-ranked Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday morning at Ted Grant Field.

The teams opened the game by trading goals over the first 3:13. Altland started the game's scoring at the 28:46 mark with her ninth goal of the season. Amber Feminella countered 1:09 later by converting a free-position shot for her 51st goal of the year. Sophomore attacker Sidney Hall (Adams Center, N.Y./South Jefferson) gave the lead back to the Dolphins – and started a 4-0 run – with her 34th goal of the campaign with 26:47 remaining in the first half.

Altland pushed the lead to 3-1 with 23:10 left by finishing off a pass from freshman attacker Erin McMullen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) in an extra-player situation. Following 12:40 of scoreless play, McMullen tallied her second straight assist by finding sophomore midfielder Nicole Delany (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) for her 37th goal of the year. Just 63 seconds later, Delany netted her career-best 38th goal after collecting a pass from Hall.

Olivia Colletti got the Warriors back within three by snapping her team's scoreless drought of 23:13 with her 20th goal with 4:24 remaining in the half.

Freshman midfielder Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) pushed Le Moyne's lead at halftime to 6-2 by finishing off a pass from junior attacker Madison Pritchard (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C./Canisius) in an extra-player situation with 3:16 to go.

Merrimack (9-4, 6-3 NE10), which has tripled its win total in conference action from last year's last-place mark (2-11), opened the scoring in the second half at the 26:37 mark as Feminella converted her second free-position shot of the game.

The Dolphins tallied the next five goals over 16:48 to pull away. Delany started the run with 26:09 left off a pass from McMullen.

Following almost 11 and one-half minutes of scoreless play, junior midfielder Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) scored three times in a span of 2:40. She netted her 15th goal of the year with 14:45 left after receiving a pass from Altland. Just 49 seconds later, she finished off a pass from Hall. She completed her hat trick with 12:05 remaining after collecting a feed from Meagher.

Altland capped the 5-0 run with her third goal of the day with 9:21 remaining.

Feminella tallied her third free-position goal of the afternoon with 8:34 left to get the Warriors within 11-4.

The Dolphins scored three times over the last seven and one-half minutes to complete the game's scoring. Delany registered her 40th goal with 7:23 left after taking a pass from Hall. Delany is the second Dolphin with at least 40 goals, joining junior attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown), who had her 12-game streak of scoring at least one goal snapped after being ejected with 7:46 left in the first half following her second yellow card of the game.

Delany got within one goal of Fazio by finding the back of the net with 4:48 left off a pass from Altland, who finished off the game's scoring with an unassisted tally with 1:26 remaining.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah George (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) earned her 29th straight regular season victory after recording six saves, including three in each half. Fazio did record three draw controls in her limited action to get within four of the program record of 263 held by Gabrielle Kamide '13. Lauren Trepaney registered 17 saves, including nine in the first half, in suffering her first loss of the season (5-1).

Le Moyne (13-0, 9-0 NE10), which has clinched at least the sixth seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, is back in action on Tuesday at American International College at 4:00 p.m.
