TICKET PUNCHED FOR TAMPA: WOMEN’S LACROSSE RALLIES FOR 14-11 WIN OVER ADELPHI IN NCAA QUARTERFINALS

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) scored five second-half goals to lead the second-ranked and top-seeded Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 come-from-behind victory over fourth-ranked and second-seeded Adelphi University in the NCAA Championship quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

With the victory, the team's program-record 20th of the season, the Dolphins advance to the NCAA Championship semifinals for the fourth straight year and for the sixth time in eight years. The six final four berths in the last eight years are tied (with Adelphi) for the most in Division II in the span. The Dolphins will take on fellow Jesuit institution, Regis University, on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the UT Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida. The Dolphins and Rangers met on March 8 in Sparks, Maryland and the Dolphins rallied from a first-half deficit for a 17-11 victory.

Adelphi, which surrendered the first goal in the prior two meetings between the teams this year, got the scoring started just 49 seconds into the game as Beth Ann Pierce converted a free-position shot for her 46th goal of the season.

The Dolphins evened the score at one apiece with 21:41 remaining in the first half as freshman attacker Erin McMullen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) scored in a player-down situation after taking a pass from Fazio.

The Panthers regained the lead with 20:31 to go as Alyssa Gillespie finished off a pass from Pierce.

Le Moyne answered with 18:03 remaining as Fazio and McMullen reversed roles from the team's first goal after McMullen caused a turnover on an Adelphi clearing attempt and picked up the loose ball.

Out of a timeout, Pierce put the Panthers up 3-2 with an unassisted goal with 14:04 left.

McMullen, off a pass from Fazio, tallied her 47th goal of the campaign with 11:25 left in the half to knot the score at three.

The Panthers scored the next two goals to take the game's first multi-goal lead. Pierce recorded her third goal of the half with 10:31 remaining after taking a feed from NE10 Player of the Year Alison Johnson. Just 83 seconds later, Kole Pollock converted a free-position shot for her 82nd goal of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Nicole Delany (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) countered 35 seconds later with a free-position goal of her own to get the Dolphins back within one.

Adelphi followed with a pair of goals for the first three-goal lead of the game. Michele Scannell, a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List at the beginning of the season, pushed the advantage to 6-4 with her 42nd goal of the season with 7:36 until halftime. Pollock then netted another free-position goal, this time in an extra-player situation, with 7:00 to go.

Le Moyne cut its deficit back to two with 2:57 left as freshman midfielder Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) tallied her seventh goal of the season off a feed from sophomore attacker Sidney Hall (Adams Center, N.Y./South Jefferson).

Pollock completed the scoring in the half with her 84th goal of the season with 2:28 to go.

The Dolphins started the scoring in the second half as Fazio netted an unassisted tally with 25:31 left.

Adelphi took its final three-goal lead of the game with 21:07 remaining on Scannell's 43rd goal of the season.

Le Moyne began its comeback by scoring the next two goals. Delany found the back of the net on a free-position shot with 20:10 left to make it 9-7. Junior midfielder Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) followed 69 seconds later with her 30th goal of the season off a feed in front of the net from Delany.

Scannell put a temporary pause on Le Moyne's comeback with her 44th goal just 47 seconds after Sanna scored.

Following two empty possessions by each team over the next three and one-half minutes, the Dolphins took control of the game with five goals over the next 5:30. Fazio started the run with 14:39 left by finishing off another feed from McMullen, who was credited with her Le Moyne freshman record 27th assist of the campaign. She scored again 63 seconds later after collecting a pass in front of the net from freshman attacker Brittney Pollack (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). After senior defender Kelly Gaffney (Florham Park, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) caused a turnover, Delany picked up the loose ball and took off up field. She sent a pass to Hall, who flipped the ball further ahead to sophomore defender Olivia McEntee (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia). She then fed Fazio on the right side of the crease for the go-ahead goal with 12:10 to play. With the goal, Fazio moved past fellow General Brown High School alum Whitney Vecchio '08 for fourth on the program's career goals chart with her 146th. She also moved past Brenna Bauer '13 for the sixth-most points in a career with her 208th. On the program's single-season points chart, she moved past Amanda Keegan '07 for fourth place with her 91st point.

Delany followed with the next two goals to extend Le Moyne's lead to three. She tallied her 69th goal of the season with 10:25 left for a 12-10 lead.  She then became the second player in the program's history to tally 70 goals in a season by converting a free-position shot with 9:09 remaining.

Pollock got the Panthers within 13-11 with 7:27 remaining with her 85th goal of the season, the third-most in Division II this season.

Fazio completed the game's scoring with her sixth goal of the game – and 68th of the season – by finishing off a pass from Hall with 6:15 left. The six goals tie Julia Suriani '15 (against New Haven on May 9, 2015) for the most goals by a Dolphin in an NCAA Championships contest, while her eight points are the most in an NCAA Championships contest.

Adelphi was unable to put a shot on goal over the remainder of the game and committed five turnovers in the span.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah George (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) registered her program-record 20th win of the season after making five saves, including three in the second half. Emma Lemanski made nine saves, including seven in the first half, in the loss, her second to the Dolphins in a week.
