VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS BLOOMFIELD AND LIU POST AT LONG ISLAND INVITATIONAL

Brookville, N.Y. – Senior right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) had 12 kills against Bloomfield College and freshman outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered 13 kills against LIU Post as the Le Moyne College volleyball team registered a pair of victories on Saturday evening at LIU Post's Pratt Center. The Dolphins defeated Bloomfield, 3-0, and then posted a 3-1 victory over LIU Post.
 
In their first match of the day, the Dolphins took a 1-0 lead over Bloomfield by taking the first set, 25-18. After Bloomfield used a 3-1 run to tie the set at 18, the Dolphins scored seven points around a timeout by the Bears to take the set. Le Moyne doubled its lead with a 25-15 victory in the second set. The Dolphins scored six of the first seven points and never led by less than three points over the remainder of the set. The Dolphins cruised to a 25-10 victory in the third set to close out the match. Le Moyne scored eight of the first nine points and later scored eight straight points for a 16-4 advantage.

Miller hit .296 in the match on the way to her 12 kills, five of which came in the third set, while she added seven digs. Talty recorded six of her nine kills in the third set and hit .333 in the match. Sophomore setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 29 assists, while adding eight digs and two service aces. Senior libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 12 digs.

Ashley Stroot led the Bears in the loss with seven kills. Laityn Sarna dished out 20 assists, while Junelly Marrero tallied 20 digs and Jakara Henry recorded 13 digs.

Le Moyne, which snapped an eight-match losing streak to the Pioneers dating back to 2004, held off an LIU Post rally in the first set for a 27-25 win. After the teams were tied at 18, the Dolphins scored four of the next five points for a 22-19 lead and eventually pushed the margin to set point, 24-21, but LIU Post scored three straight points to stay alive. Following a tie at 25, Talty and junior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) landed kills to secure the win. The Dolphins doubled their lead in the match with a 25-20 win in the second set. After LIU Post scored five straight points to knot the set at 11, the Dolphins scored seven of the next nine points to take the lead for good. LIU Post stayed alive in the match by taking the third set, 25-17. After the Dolphins tied the score at six, the Pioneers scored three straight points and 14 of the next 18 points to take control of the set. The Dolphins closed out the victory with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. The Dolphins scored six of the first eight points before extending their lead to a set-best 20-9. The Pioneers scored 10 of the next 12 points to get within 22-19, but the Dolphins scored the final three points to end the match.

Talty led three Dolphins with double-digit kills with 13, five of which came in each of the first and fourth sets. Ghindia recorded four kills in the first and fourth sets en route to 11 in the match, while adding three digs and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) also recorded 11 kills, including three in each of the first three sets, while adding six digs. Miller finished with nine kills to increase her total for the day to 22, while tying her career high with 11 digs. Yancone controlled the offense with 39 assists, while tallying 17 digs for her third career double-double. Porr registered 19 digs, including seven in the first set, three service aces and two assists. Senior defensive specialist Molly Gallagher (Schenectady, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was the fourth Dolphin with double-digit digs with 17, six of which came in each of the first and fourth sets.

LIU Post, which won a share of the East Coast Conference regular season title last year and earned a berth in the NCAA East Regional, received 12 kills each from Elise Strange and Samantha Colombo. Strange, who hit .346 and recorded three blocks, tallied five kills in the fourth set. Colombo also registered nine digs, five service aces and four assists. Giulia Genna turned in a double-double of 36 assists and 14 digs, while adding six kills and two blocks. Abby Eckhardt led the Pioneers defensively with 30 digs, including at least six in each set. Rachel Londot and Sydney Audiffred-Zauner each tallied 17 digs, while Londot posted eight kills and three service aces and Audiffred-Zauner had five blocks, four kills and three assists.
 
Le Moyne (3-1), which won three of its first four matches for the third straight year, returns to action at the Post Eagles Invitational on Saturday in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Dolphins take on Daemen College at 9:30 a.m. and then face Caldwell University at 1:30 p.m.
