Syracuse, N.Y. – Cara McKenzie registered 12 kills to lead Adelphi University to a 3-1 victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Ted Grant Court.
After the Dolphins scored four straight points to take a 20-19 lead, the Panthers scored five straight points to and five of the last six to win the first set, 25-21. In the second set, the Dolphins used an 8-1 to take control en route to a 25-19 victory, which evened the match at one set apiece. Following back and forth play over the opening 40 points of the third set, which resulted in a tie at 20, Adelphi scored five of the last seven points to capture the set, 25-22. After the Dolphins scored the first two points of the fourth set, the Panthers scored six straight and nine of the next 10 to take their first six-point lead. The Dolphins later used a 10-5 run to get within 24-22, but committed an attack error, which ended the match.

Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) led the Dolphins offensively with 14 kills off a .391 hitting percentage, while adding four blocks. Senior outside hitter
Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) was the only other Dolphin with double-digit kills with 11. Sophomore setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 43 assists, while adding nine digs. Junior defensive specialist
Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the Dolphins defensively with a season-high 21 digs, while senior libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) turned in 17.
McKenzie was one of two Panthers to record double-figure kills with her 12, while adding five service aces and five blocks. Sara Bisbe recorded 11 kills, six digs and three service aces. Grace Wegmann tallied a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs. Katarina Warburton led the Panthers defensively with a match-high 26 digs, while adding three assists.
Le Moyne (6-4, 0-2 NE10), which dropped to 1-10 against Adelphi since the Panthers joined the NE10 prior to the 2009 season, is back in action on Wednesday by hosting Roberts Wesleyan College at 7:00 p.m.
