Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, 6-1, against Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action on Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
The Skyhawks earned the point in the doubles competition by posting wins at the second and third spots. Nicole Downey and Caroline Ray collected the first win, 6-2, at the third position over sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida). Alexandra Vo and Samantha Ormesher captured the point with a 6-4 victory at the second spot over sophomores
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)). Senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) improved to 3-1 in NE10 play with a 6-3 victory at the top spot over Isabelle Porter and Bethany Hammond.
The Skyhawks won the first three matches to finish in the singles competition to clinch the match and five of the six overall. At the top spot, Porter defeated Hamdan by scores of 7-5 and 6-1. Emma Markaryan gave the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over freshman
Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) at the fifth position. Downey clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the sixth spot over Humala. At the second position, Vo posted back-to-back wins of 6-2 against Oz. Ormesher collected Stonehill's final point by edging St. Antoine at the third spot, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Nunez improved to 4-0 in NE10 action by holding off Hammond, 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 6-4, at the fourth position.
Le Moyne (4-1, 3-1 NE10) return home to host American International College on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
