WOMEN’S TENNIS REMAINS UNBEATEN AT HOME WITH 6-1 WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team remained unbeaten at home with a 6-1 win over American International College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Elevate Fitness.
 
The Dolphins swept the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At the first position, sophomores Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) improved to 4-1 in NE10 play with a 6-2 victory over Meri Jimeno-Vicente and Sophie Roberge. Freshmen Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) and Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) picked up their second win in as many tries as a duo with a 6-1 win at the second spot over Cecilia Salazar and Taylor Pankewicz. Senior Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and sophomore Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy) blanked Alice Calabrese and Mireya Ortega at the third position, 6-0.
 
Le Moyne posted straight-set victories in five of the six matches in the singles competition. Nunez moved her NE10 record to 5-0 this season and 16-1 in her career by defeating Salazar at the second position, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) registered a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Roberge at the third spot. Making her NE10 debut, Laureti downed Pankewicz at the fourth position, 6-1, 6-2. Fernandez swept Calabrese at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-0, to earn her second NE10 win. Junior Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) topped Ortega at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 2-0 on the season. Jimeno-Vicente earned AIC's lone point with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the first spot over St. Antoine.
 
Le Moyne (5-1, 4-1 NE10) returns to action on Saturday by hosting the University of the District of Columbia at 12:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
