WOMEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH 9-0 VICTORY AT SUNY CORTLAND

Cortland, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 victory over SUNY Cortland in non-conference action on Friday evening at the Cortland Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
The Dolphins opened the match by dropping only two games in the doubles completion. Sophomores Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) recorded the team's first point of the day by sweeping Isabella Arrigo and Rachel Sullivan, 8-0, at the second spot. Senior Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) also registered an 8-0 win against Mia Hayes and Chloe Knapp at the first position. Freshmen Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) and Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at the third spot over Cassie Special and Tina Wertman.
 
The Dolphins won each match in the singles competition in straight sets. Fernandez earned her first collegiate singles victory at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-0, over Sullivan. Sophomore Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) improved to 17-6 in her career in singles with 6-0, 6-0 victory over Arrigo at the third position. Laureti registered the team's third 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth spot over Special for her first career win in singles action. Oz tallied a 6-3, 6-2 win at the first position over Hayes to earn her first win. Junior Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) was victorious at the sixth spot, 6-3, 6-2, over Olivia Terry. Freshman Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) closed out the match with her first career win, 7-5, 6-1, over Knapp at the second position.
 
Le Moyne (1-0) opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday against Assumption College at the Skytop Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
