Syracuse, N.Y. – Graduate student forward
Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) registered her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 74-52 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening at Ted Grant Court.
The Dolphins, who are ranked fourth in this week's D2SIDA East Region rankings, extended their win streak to nine, during which they are defeating teams by an average of 70-51.4.
Poitevien, who has six double-doubles in seven home games this season, recorded a career-high 25 points, including 14 in the first half, and pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds. Redshirt sophomore guard
Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) tallied 13 of her 17 points in the second half, while posting four rebounds and a career-high four steals. Freshman guard
Cameron Tooley (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was the third Dolphin in double-digits with 10 points, including seven in the second half. Junior guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) dished out a game-best seven assists, but was limited to just seven points, which snapped her streak of 43 consecutive starts scoring at least 10 points.
Gyanna Russell led the Penmen in the loss with 14 points, nine of which came in the first half. All-conference forward Kylie Lorenzen, who entered the game averaging over 19 points per game, was held to just eight points, all of which came in the second half.
After the Dolphins scored the first three points of the game, the Penmen got a three-pointer from Sarah Deyo and two from Karlee Ziliak around a Poitevien lay-up to take a 9-5 lead with 5:43 left in the first quarter.
The Dolphins answered with six straight points off baskets from three different players to regain the lead, but the Penmen took the lead back with a 7-2 spurt, which included five points from Russell.
Le Moyne got a lay-up from junior forward
Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) and a three-pointer from Roberts for an 18-16 lead, but Brianna Camara hit a jumper as the quarter expired to knot the score at 18 apiece.
The teams went back and forth throughout the second quarter, with neither team leading by more than three until Poitevien had a conventional three-point play with nine seconds left to give the Dolphins a 34-30 lead at halftime.
After the teams traded baskets over the opening 2:03 of the third quarter, the Dolphins rattled off 14 straight points over 6:23 to take control of the game. Tooley started the run with a lay-up, Poitevien scored four points and then Millea made a jumper and two three-pointers for a 53-36 lead with 2:46 left in the quarter.
The Penmen scored six of the next eight points to get within 13, but freshman guard
Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) made two free throws with 13 seconds left to give the Dolphins a 57-42 lead after three quarters.
Le Moyne scored 12 of the first 16 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Millea and Poitevien each had five points in the span, while Roberts made two foul shots as the Dolphins took a 69-46 lead with 5:48 to play.
The teams traded 5-0 spurts over the next four and one-half minutes before Heather Durand ended the game's scoring with a free throw with 48 seconds left.
