BEILEIN COLLECTS 100TH CAREER WIN AS MEN’S BASKETBALL TOPS STONEHILL, 66-60

Syracuse, N.Y. – Four Dolphins scored in double figures as the Le Moyne College men's basketball team registered a 66-60 victory over Stonehill College on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

The victory marks the 100th as a head coach for Patrick Beilein. He is 68-38 in his four seasons in charge of the Dolphins after recording a mark of 32-27 in two seasons at West Virginia Wesleyan (2012-2014).

Senior forward C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich/St. Thomas More/Gannon) led the Dolphins offensively with 16 points, including 12 in the first half. Junior forward Tom Brown (Elliott City, Md./Centennial) recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points (11 in the first half) and 11 rebounds, while classmate Kobi Nwandu (York, Pa./Northeastern York/East Stroudsburg) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half. Redshirt junior guard Oshea Gairey (Toronto, Ontario/St. John's Catholic Prep (Md.)/Simon Fraser), who returned the court following a three-game absence, tallied 10 points (his most as a Dolphin) and grabbed six rebounds.

Will Moreton led the Skyhawks in the loss with 20 points, including 18 in the second half. Joel Berroa was the only other Skyhawk in double digits with 12 points, nine of which came in the second half. Michael Boen pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds (seven in the second half) to go along with seven points and four assists.

After Owen Chose gave the Skyhawks a 6-4 lead with a lay-up with 16:30 remaining in the first half, the Dolphins rattled off 10 straight points and 17 of the next 21 to take their first double-digit lead of the game. Brown scored the first eight points and then Asuncion-Byrd recorded seven points around a lay-up by Nwandu.

Following three-pointers from Berroa and Brown, Stonehill registered a 17-5 run to regain the lead with 1:37 left in the half. Six Skyhawks combined for the 17 points, led by five points from Chose, while Brandon Twitty put his team in front, 30-29, with a three-pointer.

The Dolphins, specifically Asuncion-Byrd, scored the final five points of the half to take a 34-30 lead into halftime.

Le Moyne extended its lead back to double figures with eight of the first 10 points of the second half. Nwandu and junior guard Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Mercyhurst) hit three-pointers and then Asuncion-Byrd made a jumper with 17:07 left.

After the teams split the next 20 points over 7:18, the Skyhawks used an 8-2 run to get within four, 54-50, with 7:21 to play. Moreton drained a three-pointer and a jumper and Berroa connected on a three-pointer from the left corner.

Nwandu pushed Le Moyne's lead back to nine with a three-pointer and a jumper 3:05 apart before Morton and Gairey traded conventional three-point plays, which resulted in the Dolphins leading 62-53 with 2:37 remaining.

The Skyhawks then scored seven straight points over 2:03 to get within 62-60 with 11 seconds remaining. Josh Mack converted a lay-up with 2:14 left, Moreton hit a three-pointer with 1:31 to play and then Boen cut his team's deficit to two with a put-back lay-up with 11 ticks to go.

Junior guard Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic/Caldwell) closed out the game with four free throws in the final 10.4 seconds.

Le Moyne (9-7, 6-5 NE10), which has won four straight games over the Skyhawks, returns to action on Saturday at #14/18 Saint Anselm College at 3:00 p.m.
