SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWEEP SUNY CORTLAND ON “SENIOR DAY”

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) won three events to help the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team land a 150-138 victory over SUNY Cortland on senior day at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool on Saturday. On the men's side, junior Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) placed first in three events to help edge out SUNY Courland, 154-140. 
 
Decker's first victory of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle where she reached the wall at 1:58.75. In the 500-yard freestyle, Decker reached the finish line eight seconds earlier than her next opponent with a time of 5:24.77. In her third top finish of the day, Decker reached the wall at 2:19.06 in the 200-yard individual medley.
 
Freshman Jordyn Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) placed first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke coming in at 1:04.15 and 2:18.73, respectively.
 
Sophomore Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass/Belchertown) also won a pair of events. Her first came in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:06.15 and the second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.39.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, freshman Claire Rejman (Scipio Center, N.Y./Southern Cayuga) was victorious in 55.77 seconds.

The quartet of senior Haley Buchholz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles), Synan, junior Jamie Alexander (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) and Rejman won the meet for the Dolphins by winning the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.25.
 
Dierolf topped the field in both breaststroke events. In the 100-yard, he came in with a time of 59.94 seconds and in the 200-yard race, he reached the wall at 2:13.37. Dierolf just outreached the second-place finisher, reaching the wall in 2:05.59, in the 200-yard individual medley. 
 
Junior Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle by registering a time of 1:49.51. Walton also earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle when he recorded a time of 48.76 seconds.

Sophomore Austin Richardson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) swept the distance events. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 10:14.94 and claimed the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.58.

Senior Connor Haldane (Homer, N.Y./Homer) placed first in the second one-meter diving event with 238.70 points.
 
Sophomore Nathan Gdula (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) was the fastest to reach the finish line in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.40 seconds.

Prior to the meet, the senior class of Buchholz, Haldane, Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), Madeline Gallagher (Homer, N.Y./Homer), Cameron Keatley (Avon, N.Y./Avon), Caroline Kelly (Wilton, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Emily Nicastro (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
 
The Dolphins are in action again at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which start on Thursday, February 7 at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
