23RD-RANKED SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE POSTS 2-1 WIN OVER WOMEN’S SOCCER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Emily Roan scored midway through the first half to lead 23rd-ranked Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Ted Grant Field.

Following a pair of wide shots, the Penmen scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute. Off a pass up the middle of the field by Allyson Patterson, Dorthea Glorud took a touch into the penalty box and then fired a shot from 17 yards out inside the left post at the 11:51 mark for his sixth goal of the season.

After five shots in five and one-half minutes, including a pair on target, Southern New Hampshire extended its lead to two in the 26th minute. Sydney Carney sent a shot towards the left post, which was saved, but Roan got to the loose ball first and fired a shot from 10 yards out on the left side of the box into the back of the net at the 25:47 mark for her second tally of the year.

The Dolphins pulled within one in the 78th minute. After a Southern New Hampshire defender tried to clear the ball after a crossing pass by a Dolphin, freshman forward Giovanna Popolizio (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) chipped a shot from 25 yards out that dipped under the crossbar at the 77:27 mark for her first career goal.

Le Moyne was unable to take another shot the remainder of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Bennison (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) turned away five shots, including four in the first half, in the setback. Hannah Rose made one save in the victory. The Penmen registered a 16-8 advantage in shots, including 12-5 in the first half, while posting a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-9-1, 0-7-1 NE10) returns to action on Saturday at the University of New Haven at 1:00 p.m.
