MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWEEP SAINT MICHAEL’S

Colchester, Vt. – Three members of the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team and four members of the men's team won multiple events to lead the Dolphins to a sweep of Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. The women defeated the Purple Knights, 167-104, while the men recorded a 165-111 victory.
 
The quartet of freshman Caitlyn Longway (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley), senior Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), junior Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) and sophomore Jordyn Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) opened the day by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.78.
 
Decker touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle by over six and one-half seconds with a time of 2:02.57. In the eighth individual event of the meet, Decker won the 100-yard freestyle by 2.2 seconds in 56.04 seconds.

Longway collected her first collegiate victory with a time of 1:04.06 in the 100-yard backstroke. She later won the 500-yard freestyle by over 14 seconds by posting a time of 5:26.02.

Synan captured the 200-yard butterfly by almost 11 seconds by touching the wall in 2:14.88. She swept the butterfly events by topping the field in the 100-yard with a time of 1:02.91.

Sommo was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.64 seconds.

Senior Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) claimed the team's first individual win of the afternoon with a time of 11:47.65 in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Mikael Ann Melfi (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) won the 100-yard breaststroke by 0.33 seconds with a time of 1:11.81.

In the first one-meter diving event of the afternoon, freshman Annamarie Goosley (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) placed first with 129.60 points.

Junior Elizabeth Morgan (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shaker) won the 200-yard backstroke by over four seconds in 2:21.57.

The team of senior Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury), sophomore Brandon Bardin (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), senior Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) and freshman Charles Morris (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.63 to open the meet.

Dierolf topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke by almost three and one-half seconds with a time of 1:00.52. He was also victorious in the 100-yard butterfly by over five seconds with a time of 56.10 seconds.

Morris tallied his first collegiate individual victory with a time of 22.06 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. He later won the 100-yard freestyle by two and one-quarter seconds by touching the wall in 49.76 seconds.

Freshman Dmitry Gauntt (Portsmouth, R.I./Bishop Stang) was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:42.56 for the team's first individual win of the day.

Junior Austin Richardson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) earned his first win of the year by touching the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly by almost seven seconds with a time of 2:03.75. He later won the 500-yard freestyle by over 14 seconds with a time of 4:58.36.

Sophomore Ethan Fish (Sandy Creek, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered 188.32 points to win the first one-meter diving event of the afternoon. He also won the second one-meter diving event with 143.86 points.
 
The Dolphins open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday against Bentley University at 1:00 p.m.
