EAST STROUDSBURG RALLIES FOR 65-61 WIN OVER 19TH-RANKED WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Tiffany Lapotsky made a lay-up with 27 seconds left to give East Stroudsburg University the lead as the Warriors rallied in the fourth quarter for a 65-61 win over the 19th-ranked Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Wednesday evening at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Dolphins offensively in the loss with 19 points, including 12 in the second half, and seven assists. Sophomore forward Emma Brinker (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) registered her first career double-double with career-highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a career-best three blocked shots.

Lapotsky finished the game with 22 points, including 10 of her 16 second-half points in the third quarter, to lead all scorers. Julia Kutz tallied 15 points, including six in the third quarter. Jordan Hertz dished out 10 assists and added six points and six rebounds.

East Stroudsburg scored the game's first five points before the teams traded points over the next five minutes. Hertz started the game's scoring with a three-pointer and then Kutz converted a lay-up off a feed from Hertz.

Following a three-point play by Dominique Rayam to give the Warriors a 14-8 lead with 3:11 left, the Dolphins scored the final nine points of the quarter. Roberts started the streak with a lay-up, Millea followed with a lay-up off a Roberts steal then junior forward Madison Shetrom (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) finished off a feed from Roberts to knot the score at 14 with 1:52 left to force an East Stroudsburg timeout. Millea capped off the scoring in the streak and the quarter by draining a runner from 40-feet as time expired in the period for a 17-14 Le Moyne lead.

The Warriors regained the lead with the first four points of the second quarter. Kaitlyn Swint made a lay-up on the first possession and then Lapotsky knocked down a jumper in the paint.

After the Dolphins scored four straight points and Sadie Cresswell answered with a three-pointer to tie the score at 21 with 6:06 left, the Dolphins tallied 10 of the final 15 points of the half. Junior guard Gabriella Badway (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored the first four points and then Roberts and sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) drilled three-pointers around a lay-up by Kutz to take a 31-26 lead into halftime.

As they did in the first and second quarters, the Warriors scored the first points of the third quarter, in the case, the first seven points of the quarter to take a two-point lead. Lapotsky buried a three-pointer, Swint made two free throws to tie the score and Lapotsky followed with a lay-up for the lead.

The Dolphins tied the score at 33 and 35 before taking the lead on a pair of free throws with 6:05 left in the quarter for a 37-36 lead. Zimmerman then drilled a three-pointer for a four-point advantage.

East Stroudsburg got lay-ups from Marlene Bassett and Kutz to even the score at 40 apiece with 4:01 to go.

Following ties at 42, 44 and 46, Lapotsky made a free throw with 1:55 left to put the Warriors up by a point. The Dolphins answered with seven of the last nine points of the quarter for a 53-49 lead. Brinker and Roberts made lay-ups and then Roberts followed a Kutz lay-up with a pull-up three-pointer from 25 feet on the right wing with four seconds left.

Le Moyne scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to take the largest lead of the game. Roberts opened the quarter with a three-pointer, Brinker followed with a free throw and then sophomore guard Erin Fouracre (, N.Y./) put the Dolphins up by double digits with a lay-up with 7:15 to play.

East Stroudsburg responded with a pair of 8-0 runs around a Le Moyne basket to end the game. Kutz started the stretch with a three-pointer, Abby Schoffstall converted a lay-up, Lapotsky made a free throw and Swint capped the first spurt with a lay-up off a steal by Hertz.

After Roberts made a lay-up to put Le Moyne back up by four, the Warriors put together their other 8-0 spurt. Hertz made a free throw, Schoffstall got the Warriors within one with a lay-up with 1:10 left. Following a missed shot by the Dolphins, Lapotsky gave East Stroudsburg the lead with the lay-up with 27 seconds left.

The Dolphins had their ensuing shot with five seconds left blocked and the Warriors got the rebound. Following a pair of Le Moyne fouls, including one unsporting, which gave ESU two free throws and the ball. Lapotsky made one of the free throws from the unsporting foul and then converted two free throws after another foul. The Dolphins were unable to get off another shot before time expired.

Le Moyne (1-2), which had a six-game win streak over the Warriors snapped, opens its home schedule on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against Queens College.
